Came to Ireland to visit family and had been looking forward to a birthday meal at Jim Edwards. Turned out to be very disappointing to what had been a lovely day up until this point. Here are my fair and accurate reasons:
Lasagne. Well, its meant to be lasagne but in reality its bolognese wearing a lasagne sheet as a hat. No layers. Tastes very bland too. Its as if the chef has given up his love of flavour and just wants to get the day over with. The Italians would be offended if they saw and tried this dish.
Chips. Is there a worldwide potato shortage I dont know about? Instead of each customer getting a side of chips for themselves (like you would expect at any restaurant), instead its served for the table to share. When asked for the chips to be given as individual portions, they came back in the smallest portion of chips I've ever been served. Literally the equivalent to one potato per person. See pic if you don't believe me. You get more if you ask for more, but a lot of people don't know this and you shouldn't have to ask for more. You should be given the amount that is fair to the price of the meal to begin with. Can only assume its the restaurant trying to get away with saving their pennies where they can if they can get away with it.
Portion size. As you can tell from points 1 and 2, portion size is small. I was still left hungry after the meal and the same for others at my table who have a smaller appetite. The restaurant's portion sizes used to be larger, now they're smaller but the price stays the same.
If this is a business that wants to do the right thing; provide great quality and value for money, they should have a good look at themselves, take onboard the feedback, and make changes...
Read moreWorst experience of a 10-day Ireland trip. Arrived before the dinner rush on a Friday evening at 5:00pm and before any reservations were showing up. We did not have one but the dining room was empty except for one table and we only had a party of two anyways. The only time we were spoken to by staff was to take our order and when we were paying our bill. To even obtain our bill, we had to physically approach staff, otherwise we would have been waiting forever. Food was the most bland of the ENTIRE trip and it wasn't close. Pub food along the Wild Atlantic Way drastically puts this place to shame. Fish - No flavor. How this is possible in Kinsale is beyond me. Chips - Undercooked and a nice cardboard-like flavor. Burger - Overcooked (requested Medium but was basically well done), zero flavor, zero toppings, zero seasoning. The only reason we wanted any of it was because we were starving after walking around Kinsale for 7+ hours. I can understand understaffed places because we have seen them along our trip. This was not the problem. The place was empty and the staff acts and looks like they not only hate their job but also hate their customers. I am not sure where the good reviews came from but things must have really turned sour fast here. Avoid and find a place where they care at all. Great...
Read moreThis restaurant was recommended to me by my B&B hostess as a wonderful place for seafood. I travel alone, and enjoy sitting at bars, because the bartenders are usually quite attentive. I don’t know if they were short staffed, but the young man who carefully made my Manhattan, which was lovely, turned out to be one of several waiters who were making drinks for their own patrons. I had the seafood chowder, which was wonderful, but was delivered by someone who happened to be passing it in the kitchen. I had also ordered the starter version of the king prawn scampi. They were delivered by yet another waiter, and I was very surprised to find that they were breaded and fried. The description had been that they would be deep-fried, but they were breaded, and they were also cold. I could not get the attention of my original waiter, and at no point was I offered water or asked if I was enjoying my meal. I had to interrupt another waiter to order a glass of wine. I had observed all the other waiters prepare glasses for white wine by adding ice cubes to the glass to chill it before pouring the wine. This was not done with my glass, and the waiter who I had asked for it, delivered it very abruptly and left me, as though I had interrupted him. All in all, it was an incredibly...
