My wife and I ate here last night based on the recommendation from friends, (and from seeing so many positive online reviews). Our experience was so disappointing I felt I had to place a review to set the record straight. While there was nothing drastically wrong - there was, without doubt, nothing "amazing" / "outstanding" / "sensational" about the place/meal. Eating in Man Friday felt like eating in a 'canteen'. The service was rushed and poor - they didn't even try to disguise their "get them in, get them out" attitude. As for the food....I am not exaggerating when I tell you that it felt like the chef was either stuck in the 70's or just clearly did not care about the food he/she was serving. The presentation was not just dated but it looked like it was 'thrown' on to the plate. The dishes we ate were over cooked and bland - which was such a pity because you could see that the quality of the food was pretty good before the 'chef' got his/her hands on it. Overall - we just could not understand how this place has won so many awards - the people handing them out either know nothing about food/service or were so drunk they could not see how bad this place is. If you are taking friends/family out for dinner and want to impress them - please, please DO NOT...
Read moreWhat a meal all 4 of us had. If you're there to order before 1830, you can choose the early bird menu, which is 3 courses for around 41 euro. For starters between us, we had deep-fried brie with salad, which was completely spectacular . Leak and potato soup and fish chowder, which were both so tasty. For mains, we had sirloin steak, which must be the best steak I have ever eaten. So tender and tasty with a lovely rich peppercorn sauce . The grilled hake was amazing and the pork belly, so well presented, was large and tasty. Along with the meal we had the home baked bread, which was so lovely we had more. I can't wait to go back again. Next time we'll be sure to book ahead and hopefully get a lovely outside table overlooking the harbour below or if its a bit rainy and cold maybe one of the inside patio tables with roaring open fire and similar views. We didn't try the desserts as we were too full. But what we saw carried past us to other tables looked amazing . I can't speak more highly of this restaurant. If you're near Kinsale, it's...
Read moreFrom the moment we stepped inside Man Friday restaurant we had a wonderful experience. We didn't have a booking last night but Katie had a warm welcome and found us a table for three. We ordered the early Bird menu. The beautiful homemade treacle brown bread was absolutely delicious. Starters of seafood chowder and chicken liver pate were divine. Main courses were two hake on a bed of risotto and our friend had chicken supreme with mushroom accompaniement and mashed potato. For dessert we had Apple crumble, and two servings of meringue nest with raspberry coulis all served with vanilla ice cream. The staff were very busy and very polite and friendly. Our server was Damien and he was very helpful and service was outstanding. He told us that Man Friday deli is a sister company based in South Mall in Cork City and the brown bread can be purchased there. Overall a five star experience and will definitely be back. Thank...
