We have just returned from our ninth visit to Meran and our fourth to this glorious luxury hotel (previous visits in 2012 to 2014). This was a late booking, for 16 nights, following the Covid-related cancellations of all our previous attempts to reach the Alps this year, including our planned holiday in June at the beautiful Hotel Adria, sister to the Park Mignon.||||On arrival at the Park Mignon we were greeted with great warmth by the family owners and the many staff members whom we recognised from either the Mignon or the Adria. It turned out that we were the hotel’s first English guests this year, and indeed the first Inghams guests to visit any hotel in Meran. This we found bizarre, because the Meran area was relatively unscathed during Northern Italy’s spring Covid crisis, and it has clearly taken huge precautions - in the hotels, on public transport, in shops - to protect its citizens and visitors. Compliance with local instructions on wearing masks, sanitising hands and maintaining social distancing seemed to us exemplary, and we quickly felt relaxed and safe, inside the hotel and out.||||Everything about the Park Mignon hotel is first class. Because we spent most of our days hiking in the mountains, we did not visit the extensive spa, but the indoor/outdoor pool was lovely at the end of the day. The food is sensational, with choice at every stage of the six-course dinners, plus additional amuse-bouches from the chef at the gala dinners on Sundays. On our first Thursday we enjoyed a traditional Tyrolean evening, with Heinz Gamper on the zither accompanying a terrific, albeit filling, dinner. On the second Thursday the star turn was the patisserie chef - we were served a stunning range of (mostly chocolate) desserts. The wine list is also excellent, with many high-end local wines to choose from, as well as international options. The prices of the wine are very fair, with affordable as well as eye-wateringly expensive bottles available. At the start of the day, the (masked-up, socially distanced) breakfast buffet also set us up beautifully for our hiking. Our room was smart and the twin beds very comfortable.||||The weather in Meran was not as hot as we had expected in August, certainly not too hot for hiking, and we experienced a couple of days of rain with dramatic evening thunderstorms. But given the right hiking gear, this didn’t matter at all; indeed the contrasts were refreshing.||||We have our tenth holiday to Meran booked for next June. We will be staying at the lovely Adria again (which I have reviewed in previous years); for us as a retired couple, it is a more affordable long-term option. В помещениях отеля и СПА невероятно большое количество комаров. В номерах крайне дешёвые кондиционеры, у которых не работает ночной режим. В этом отеле творится самодеятельность, беспредел и хамство. "Шеф-повар" смешивает рыбный суп со сливками, пересаливает, пережаривает. Ни о какой здоровой еде и речи быть не может. С ужина рыбные блюда (в том числе сырые) выставляются на завтрак и на обед следующего дня. Я врач и могу профессионально сказать, что на кухне царит беспредельное нарушение санитарных норм: начиная с того, что у "повара" однозначно нет диплома, заканчивая подменой продуктов: т.е. заявлено одно, а по факту подают более дешёвые продукты. Когда я сказала об этом хозяйке, она начала на меня кричать (за мои 450 евро в сутки):" Идите ешьте, где хотите. Уезжайте, когда хотите. Деньги я не отдам". But it is owned by two women who have no idea about the culture of behavior, nor about the tourism business. In front of my eyes, one of the owners was taking food from the breakfast to her house, at the reception they were loudly discussing customers, quarreling with guests and being rude towards them, the tourists, who are staying at their hotel, are absolutely not important to the owners. The amount of mosquitoes inside the hotel and SPA is incredibly high. The rooms have extremely cheap air conditioners that do not have quiet mode. Fraud and rudeness rule the hotel. "Chef" mixes fish soup with cream, oversalts, overfries. There can be no talk of any healthy food. For dinner fish dishes (including raw) are served for breakfast and for lunch the next day. I am a medical doctor and I can professionally say that they don't follow any sanitary standarts in the kitchen: starting with the fact that the "cook" definitely does not have a diploma, ending with a substitution of products: i.e. one dish is in the menu, but in fact they serve cheaper products. When I told this to the owner, she started SHOUTING at me (for my 450 euros per day): "Go eat where you want. Leave when you want. I won’t give the money back." In a state of stress, we left earlier, the money was withdrawn for the full term (10 days). Such "hospitality" and food is a great shame for Italy.||||L'hotel è bellissimo, pulito, tranquillo, un buon centro benessere. Ma è gestito da due donne che non hanno idea della cultura del comportamento, né del business del turismo. Davanti ai miei occhi la padrona di casa portava il cibo della prima colazione a casa sua, alla reception stavano discutendo i clienti a voce alta, litigavano con gli ospiti ed erano scortesi con loro, i turisti che stanno riposando nel loro hotel sono assolutamente indifferenti ai proprietari. Nel hotel e nella zona di SPA ci sono tantissime zanzare. Le camere dispongono di condizionatori d'aria estremamente economici che non hanno la modalità tranquilla. Frode e maleducazione gestiscono l'albergo. Lo "Chef" mescola la zuppa di pesce con panna, mette troppa sale, scuoce la pasta. Non si può parlare di cibo sano. Per cena, i piatti di pesce (anche crudo) vengono serviti a colazione e a pranzo il giorno successivo. Sono un medico e posso affermare professionalmente che esiste una violazione illimitata degli standard sanitari in cucina: a partire dal fatto che il "cuoco" sicuramente non ha un diploma, per finire c'e' una sostituzione di prodotti: ad es. un piatto è dichiarata sul menu', ma in realtà servono prodotti più economici. Quando ne ho parlato con la padrona di casa, ha iniziato a gridarmi (per i miei 450 euro al giorno): "Vai a mangiare dove vuoi. Parti quando vuoi. Non restituirò i soldi". In uno stato di stress, siamo partiti prima, alla fine abbiamo dovuto pagare per l'intero periodo (10 giorni). Tale "ospitalità" e cibo sono una vera vergogna...
