All reviews are based on personal experience and opinion. Others will have completely different views, but this was our experience.||The setting is undeniably beautiful. But note that your room may be in the local village some 400-500 metres away from the main house. There is a buggy service, although we found this unreliable. At night the road between the two is often covered with locals parking their cars over the sidewalks, so you walk along in the middle of a dimly lit road. ||You can’t actually enter the grounds of the main house although occasional tours are offered. ||Breakfast when we stayed was only available on the main site, so a brisk morning walk away. Breakfast buffet was good, particularly their scrambled eggs, and the al la carte options good too. Although when the muesli jar ran out we were told there was no more and none was offered for the rest of our stay (awaiting delivery they said). There were also no high fibre cereal options disappointingly. Getting coffee can be time consuming as there was only one person taking orders in a very busy restaurant (although she was very charming and happy). ||The hotel rooms are clean, spacious and modern with the usual authentic beams etc. Quality toiletries are supplied. The bed was comfy. We did have to call for maintenance three times on check in as the loo was running water loudly next to the bedroom. They seemed to struggle to fix it. A day later and it’s doing it again! We wondered why the cleaner hadn’t spotted this and report it. The aircon worked ok. The surroundings were surprisingly quiet outside given there were a couple of events on whilst we were there. This is where it started to go wrong. There was a wedding on whilst we were there with loud guests so that often you felt caught up in the noise and busyness of it all. Serenity gone. ||Check in was a nightmare with people pushing in and being overly loud. More disappointing was that areas of the hotel were shut off from us due to the wedding. Of course you’re not told this at booking. ||The most disappointing thing about our stay was we paid for half board. BIG mistake. ||The restaurant Biagio Pignatta (by far the better restaurant) that we went to on our first night was only open Sat and Thurs. We weren’t told this when booking or at check in and we had been really looking forward to fresh fine Italian food which was offered at Biagio, and it was exceptional. Instead we were left with two nights at the ‘restaurant’ La Cantina del Redi which had things like very tough hanger steak cuts, lamb chops that were all bone, fat and gristle, chicken wings and fries on the menu. Hardly the Italian fare most would expect. Pizza is available but it’s not the best. The Melia website claims you can enjoy ‘delicious traditional Italian pasta’ at this restaurant but there are no pasta dishes on the menu!||We felt ripped off. Pay as you go, don’t do half board unless you are sure Biagio Pignatta is open for all your stay.||I did try a massage at the spa. The lady masseuse was very pleasant indeed, but decide your massage treatment carefully. I had the Hawaiian Massage which was nothing more than an uninspiring oily rub. The actual massage bed itself was worn out. I only realised when I felt a graze as I placed my face into the hole and felt a sharp scratch.||The setting is astounding, the staff very friendly and positive, but I’m not sure I’d stay again given the cost, the limitations and food options during...
Read moreStayed at this property for two nights in mid-June for a wedding. While the property is beautiful, the management and staff could use some serious training in hospitality. Upon my arrival at the property, I checked in and the front desk/concierge service grabbed my baggage to take me to the apartments area of the property. While loading my baggage into the vehicle, the driver did not put down pull handle of my baggage. It was a bumpy road (lots of gravel not the route) and my baggage fell over in the trunk thus causing the pull handle to completely break and dislocate.
Upon exiting the vehicle, both the driver and front desk representative apologized about the damage and said they will speak with the manager to correct this problem (manager was Maria Letizia Nardoni). The manager called me, and told me go into Florence and find someone who can fix damage and send them a receipt. I was quite baffled and irritated at this resolution. I explained to Maria Letizia that I am a guest in this country and I do not speak the language to just find someone who can fix the damage that was due to their negligence. Since Florence is about a 45 minute car ride from the property, I asked if they would be willing to provide transportation to go into the city to fix the baggage - they declined saying it was not their responsibility to help me get to the city. After some back and forth, Maria Letizia verbally and in writing, agreed to put in an insurance claim for the damage they caused.
I returned back home a few days later, and kept following up what they needed from me to put in the insurance claim. After numerous follow ups, Maria Letizia responded by requesting my bank account information so they can transfer funds. I let her know, I’m not comfortable providing my private banking information over email (cyber hacks are at an all time high). Instead, I requested if a check could be sent to me as that is much safer. Maria Leitiza responded they cannot do that, and when I requested her to check with her superiors and corporate, she did not respond to me. This issue is close to two months old now and still no resolved.
All in all, horrible experience in customer service with this property. Although, they have taken responsibility for the damage they caused, they are not willing to make this...
Read moreA splendid hotel offering a choice of rooms and apartments in the village. We stayed in the "Borgo" for three nights, as two families of three people each. We were provided with a spacious three-room apartment on three levels, which guaranteed privacy and comfort for all members of the group.
The setting is charming: the village is nestled in the Tuscan hills, with views and an atmosphere of peace and tranquillity that allows you to completely disconnect from everyday life. Walking through the narrow streets or in the countryside and enjoying the sunsets is an experience that alone makes the stay worthwhile.
We opted for half board and the restaurants proved to be of excellent quality: carefully prepared dishes, selected ingredients and attentive and friendly service. The only aspect that could be improved is the variety: although the menu at each of the restaurants is good, it never changes, and by the second or third visit it can become a little monotonous. However, the view from both restaurants is magnificent, making every meal a special occasion.
I was also a guest last year in August and, given my satisfaction, I wanted to repeat the experience by bringing my brothers-in-law with me: they also enjoyed it very much, as did my younger children, who found the environment pleasant and welcoming. I noticed a change in the management of pool towels, which is now handled by the reception. It is an understandable choice to maintain order and reduce washing, but it can create some minor inconvenience at busy times, as well as being uncomfortable and unhygienic for staff who have to alternate between delivering/collecting towels and checking guests in/out. Compared to last year, the shuttle service between the hotel/pool area and the village has been increased, now provided by three electric vehicles: a concrete sign of attention to the environment. Sometimes the waits were a little long, other times immediate, but considering that we stayed during the busiest week of the year, the service was still convenient and efficient.
In conclusion, the assessment is certainly very positive. The Tenuta di Artimino remains a destination of great charm, combining comfort, beautiful scenery and customer care. I hope to return soon to enjoy this wonderful...
