Hotel Castel Vecchio — Hotel in Castel Gandolfo

I’m torn between giving the hotel a 3 star or 4 star.

At the beginning of our stay we were completely overwhelmed with the views. It is just stunning and if the hotel didn’t offer the views, I’m not sure I would recommend anyone to stay.

The reception staff were AMAZING. The friendliest and most helpful people, however - you walk downstairs to the breakfast restaurant/ dinner area and it’s like you are entering another hotel. The staff there were a bit abrupt and not helpful at all.

We were only staying two nights, however dinner was completely full - I do feel like paying guests at the hotel should be offered the space before anyone else - however, breakfast didn’t wow us and the staff weren’t helpful at restaurant - so I’m glad we didn’t eat there in the end.

The rooms were OK - again the views were amazing, so made the room amazing. The showers are very small and weak water pressure, the air con is positioned in the wrong place, so you can not feel the real benefits when laying in bed. There was a ceiling fan but I’ve never heard a fan so loud. Considering you are in a peaceful and beautiful location - the fan did not compliment that.

However, the hotel is positioned nicely for the local town and there are some beautiful restaurants there. So many family run businesses and it’s just amazing and I would definitely recommend people to walk out and...

Firstly I have to say this hotel is in a beautiful location.||Secondly it’s the lovely staff that make this place. Unfortunately I arrived sick to this villa and they took care of me with such ease and were so helpful.|They could not do enough. They were professional and courteous and I believe this is what makes a good management team. ||I cannot remember everyone’s names but it’s the lovely woman in reception and the other gentleman who helped me at the bar area with food or cappuccino early in the morning. |Also I thank housekeeping as well for helping me with any of my needs.||All in all I would recommend this hotel. As the better 5 star hotels in the area. Rooms are clean and there is a welcoming energy to everyone.|Courteous and kind professional management means a lot to someone who was away on business and also was not very well… it’s just what I needed to make me feel more at home!!!!||Thank you all :)||So well done team!!! I recommend your hotel...

Luci e tante ombre .. 4 stelle di incoraggiamento perchè una struttura così bella, affascinante, che richiama grandi feste e con una vista del genere sul verdissimo lago non può andare persa. Certo 4 stelle alle camere dei piani superiori, che ho visto in foto (ma attenzione alla rumorosissima strada di sampietrini quando passano auto a tutta velocità!). Per quelle sotto la veranda sono sufficienti 2 stelle, la mia era a metà strada tra il dismesso (per lo stato manutentivo) e "la stiamo arredando con quel che c'è" (visibilmente disadorna, armadio non appoggiato al muro, mobili buttati là senza alcuna logica tipo una branda come terzo letto ed una mensola wengè (in un albergo Art Nouveau? ma dai!?) ed un tavolino da bar scadente con le zampe di ferro e le macchie di ferro da stiro abbinato a due poltroncine belline belline ...). Ma guardando fuori dalla porta finestra (senza abbassare lo sguardo sulla discarica edile che c'è sotto) si sopporta meglio. Ovviamente tali camere sono silenziosissime - a prova di matrimonio - e la vista è emozionante a qualunque ora. Il particolare del portachiavi di legno che si inserisce in un applique anch'essa di legno per attivare la luce è un'opera d'arte. Ma l'emozione si spegne un po' quando togliendo la chiave l'applique mi viene dietro perchè è mezza scardinata dal muro... e si potrebbe andare avanti ancora ... Il bagno, minuscolo e datato ma funzionante avrebbe bisogno delle pulizie di Natale, non di quelle frettolose giornaliere, e di una bella manutenzione (e già che ci siamo, rifacciamolo). Letto e biancheria invece perfetti e cambiati ogni giorno.

Wi-fi perfetto, condizionatore zoppicante ma in qualche modo fa il suo lavoro. Parcheggio e distanze dal centro perfette. Certo le rampe sono un po' ripide .. ma la posizione non permette altro.

Nella mail di benvenuto non si dovrebbe scrivere che ci saranno 10 scalini da fare e che ci sarà un servizio bagagli se poi gli scalini sono 23, la passeggiata lunghetta e del servizio bagagli manco l'ombra! Attenzione a non sbugiardarsi da soli!

E per togliere a costo zero l'aria da hotel abbandonato che si ha durante tale passeggiata verso la camera sarebbe sufficiente fare ordine, tanto ordine, buttare gli innumerevoli raccattapolvere disseminati, i divani macchiati, gli asciugamani abbandonati su tavolini da bar (sempre loro!), togliere polvere e ragnatele e mettere qualche tenda nuova a coprire viste su sale eventi tristemente inutilizzate da tempo, passerelle metalliche arrugginite ed altre zone abbandonate a se stesse da anni. La veranda splendida per fare colazione (colazione sufficiente per scelta e qualità, anche se il servizio causa Covid è un po' farraginoso), ristorante - per quello che è stata la mia esperienza...
