My wife and I were looking for a nice affordable place to stay in the Aosta Valle and this hotel, located in the wonderful town of Cogne was perfect for what we needed. This is a perfect hotel for our needs. It is as close to being a ski in/ski out hotel without actually being one. The only caveat is that it is a ski in/ski out for cross country skiing only. My wife and I were interested in Alpine skiing. The town has a very convenient bus to the lifts for the Gran Paradiso ski area if you are looking to Alpine ski close to the hotel. We elected to take the 45 minute drive to Courmayeur for our skiing adventures. It is a fairly easy drive up the autostrada and back.||As for the hotel, it offered everything we needed. It has a small kitchenette in an ample sized room (especially for European standards). The bathroom was also a good size as well. They accommodated our two dogs as well for 5€ per dog per night which was a huge convenience for us.||If we return to the area, we would not hesitate to stay at the Chateau Royal again. The curators were extremely friendly and helpful, the hotel is situated right outside a main shopping and dining area (make reservations if it is a busy time of year), and the price...
Read moreWe have been to Gran Paradiso three times and always stay at Chateau Royal. We've only been in September and October, to go hiking, and the self-catering apartments are perfect for us. We don't even get in the car most days; we just leave from the hotel to hike for hours. We buy food at the local markets to cook in the (very) small kitchen (read: it's a closet and absolutely fine for cooking for 2 hungry people); we use the hot tub or sauna (warm both up a good 30 minutes in advance); wash our clothes in the laundry, and have breakfast looking up the valley to views of the mountains. The owners are kind, prompt to respond, and generous with their time. They also leave you to yourself. The first time we came, we didn't see them until we checked out. They left our room unlocked and told us to call them at their other hotel, in Valnontey, if we needed anything. Overall, I recommend this casual, clean and great hotel to anyone who doesn't need room service and wants to be able to explore the park from their front door without...
Read moreOverall I would say that this place offers good value for money. The apartment we had was spacious and very clean and up to date.||||The only drawbacks on the room were that the beds were cheap, so not all that comfortable. Also, one of the two bathrooms was poorly ventilated, so odours and damp air linger. Lastly, one of the bedrooms has no windows, so is extremely stuffy…and even with the windows open in the adjacent room, is almost suffocating.||||The main criticism is the very, very poor wifi. If you need a reliable network, you cannot stay here as it is extremely slow and service cuts out for hours or longer on end.||||The hotel is extremely well-located, but offers no parking.||||Staff are friendly, but are only...
