My recent stay at Rome Airport Hotel Fiumicino was rather disappointing. The exterior of the hotel, which appeared nice on the website, was dilapidated in reality. The surrounding area also seemed rundown. The sole reason for choosing this hotel was its proximity to the airport. However, there were a few positives to note. We discovered a fantastic local ice cream parlour nearby and visited it multiple times in one day. The local beach was also enjoyable, especially for families with children.
The room we stayed in was able to accommodate our party of five, which was the primary reason for selecting this hotel. Otherwise, I would have opted for a more affordable option. Unfortunately, we paid £400 for a one-night stay in this room. The Wi-Fi did not work, and when I informed the staff, their response was dismissive, claiming it worked fine for them. This lack of concern was disappointing.
The bathroom shower was in poor condition, with a leaking pipe and a blocked drain, causing the tray to fill up quickly. Again, the staff did not show much interest in resolving the issue. Although the beds were comfortable, the soundproofing in the rooms was inadequate, allowing noise to easily filter in. Each room had a balcony, but they were as dilapidated as the hotel's exterior.
The interior of the hotel appeared to have been recently renovated, but signs of wear and maintenance issues were still noticeable. Some lights were not working, there were nicks on the wall corners, steps felt wobbly, and the TV did not function properly (not that it mattered much). The hotel's lift was particularly concerning, as it would unpredictably move up and down upon entering, creating a sense of insecurity.
The breakfast provided in the morning was subpar. The pastry selection was limited, although the coffee was enjoyable. There were few juice options, but an abundance of cake, which seemed out of place for a breakfast spread. Given the opportunity, I would have chosen alternative accommodations, but this hotel was the most affordable option for accommodating our group near the airport.
Overall, if given the choice, I would not stay at Rome Airport Hotel Fiumicino again. The hotel's condition, unresponsive staff, and disappointing breakfast left much...
Read moreMy family and I booked a room here on Aug 6-7. We arrived at midnight with the intention of just waiting at the hotel instead of waiting at the airport. We were at the hotel for maybe 5-6 hours.
I do understand it was our misunderstanding. The room was booked for 4 and we had 6 people. In the USA, this is okay for us to do this. We assumed it’s okay here also. Plus we weren’t going to sleep there anyways so it seems unnecessary to book 2 rooms for this reason. But we understand that this is the policy. The front desk guy started yelling at us repeatedly and scolding us. It was actually scary and threatening. There is always a nice way to explain things but this guy went straight to yelling and he yelled for a good while. I don’t get why? It was so unnecessary.
We had a long day and didn’t feel like dealing with it further so we ended up booking another room. He asked if we wanted to add breakfast and we said no since we won’t be staying here that long and he proceeded to yell again saying it doesn’t matter we still can’t stay in one room. He kept going back to the same argument when we thought we were done with this since we’re already booking another room.
The first room we booked was very spacious and had 4 beds (which could have easily fit 6 people btw so this felt like a scam) I paid about $356 for this room.
The second room we booked last minute had one bed and it was about $170.00
The hotel smell was musty. I took a shower in the morning and the shower head holder was loose. When I turned the water on, the shower head moved and water got everywhere and the floor was slippery. That was actually dangerous.
I liked how spacious the room was and it was clean minus the smell. Location close to the airport was also good but will definitely not recommend anyone to stay here with that kind of service. He was nice the following morning when we checked out but man was that...
Read moreThe good first: very close to the airport. Cab ride can be bartered down. The family room is pleasantly large. There's a king bed downstairs, a couch that could be slept on, a balcony and bathroom. Upstairs there are two twin beds and a large balcony with a table for four. The afternoon staff when we arrived was very helpful and nice. Breakfast can be included and the food was very good. A lot of choices to pick from.
The "ehh": shuttle is €6/person which is nice if there are only a few of you. If more, take Uber. You may be able to barter with the hotel in the off season for a little less or to at least match the Uber prices.
The bad: here's where I took away a star. Upon check out, you will be charged a per person "tourism tax" which was not mentioned in the booking and apparently not included in the price when you book and pay. We went to check out and we were told "€20 for the shuttle plus €9 for tax". When explained together, this sounds like they charge €9 on top of the €20 for the shuttle. When I questioned the front staff, I was repeatedly yelled at as though I was an idiot. I kept saying that €24 for the Uber and not pay the tax for the shuttle was indeed cheaper. The man just kept on yelling the same thing over and over. He came out from around the counter, got in my face as I was sitting, and continued to yell at me. By the time I understood that the tax is attached to the room and not the shuttle, I decided I would rather pay the extra € to not be yelled at by the staff.
Another gentleman behind the counter seemed to be trying to deescalate the situation but the first guy just kept on even as we walked out the front door.
All in all, yes, I would stay here again, and I would recommend it if you have transportation such as a rental car. The neighborhood seemed nice and the rooms were great...
