The final night of our lovely stay in Ostia was definitely soured by this dining experience. Our surly waiter contradicted menu choices (my mum asked for spaghetti, he suggested gnocchi, she asked for just a tomato sauce and he suggested twice that she have it with clams), brought me a red wine that was carbonated (at 37, and having worked in many bars for the best part of a decade, I've never come across this before, and it was as foul as it sounds) and my steak looked an absolute dogs dinner - search instagram for the hashtag #ostiasteak, I'll put a picture up shortly. If we were those "rude British tourists" you often hear of I could understand such treatment, but we were utterly polite & friendly throughout. I'd asked for a medium cooked steak, the only edible part of the mess was well done. The gristle and bone I left, the same for the parts which looked..well, rare didn't do that justice for how uncooked it was in parts. Utterly inconsistent and, in all honesty, kind of stomach-turning. I had a little of mum's spaghetti, it was over-cooked. Great location and a lovely decor, but the experience was a huge Nope for us. Also, when a woman and child went into the toilet, the bald elderly gentleman who worked there opened the door and looked in after them, which seemed creepy and weird. Avoid this place, there are plenty of other fantastic places to get food...

We stayed at an Airbnb close to the airport and found this spot through The Fork — great reviews and a solid value discount convinced us to give it a try. So glad we did!
The service was warm and welcoming. We navigated the Italian-to-English translations with Google Translate, and the lovely (and beautiful!) lady who served us was incredibly thoughtful — especially when it came to our kids’ food allergies (eggs and nuts). She ensured everything was safe and even arranged a custom order of spaghetti with tomato sauce, paired with a delicious Bistecca ai Ferri (grilled steak). Our youngest said it was the best pasta he had in all of Italy!
Portions were generous, and everything we ordered was packed with flavor. The Friggitoria Napoletana was a fun and tasty starter — a mix of fried treats. I had the Scialatielli Zi Catarì, which was absolutely delicious and came recommended by the staff, who clearly know their menu. We also tried the gnocchi with porcini and clams — such a unique and amazing combination. The steak was juicy and well-cooked, and two of our kids finished with classic panna cotta — the perfect ending.
This area seems to be known for seafood, and everything we tasted was fresh and fantastic. The atmosphere felt truly local, the prices were more than fair (especially with The Fork discount), and the experience was perfect for families.
Highly recommend if you’re nearby — especially with kids. Thank you for the wonderful food, kind service, and prosecco!
E abbiamo fatto benissimo!
Read more3 out of five plates were fine. Odd service. They said they had full reservations inside for 8 and 8:30 pm. We sat at 7:30 outside and were devoured by bugs. By 9 pm only a dozen tables inside were used. Outside only 3-4 and yet the claimed they were all reserved. Ok. Now the food. Pizza was great. Fried Calamari superb. Gnocchi alla Sorrentina were somewhat tasteless. The same is true for the zucca and basil ones. One guest had spaghetti with clams. Very tasty but clams could have been better cleaned. Nice red house wine. Great veggies and salads. Overall, a little high for some mediocre pasta dishes. The rest was fine and fair priced. Service was decent. Lots of staff just standing inside. VERY clean establishment. After a few days in the area, the food here is...
