We stayed here in June as we wanted to visit Cinque Terre, and La Spezia is a good base for this. So glad we found this hotel, which is more like a quaint B&B. It is SO cute! As soon as we walked in (you go through a very pretty courtyard first), I was in love. It is lovely and intimate and so Italian! It's a bit rustic--if you like things to be perfect and new and clean I don't think you'll like it--there are a few cobwebs here and there and some of the furnishings are worn. I found it cozy and wonderful. Free, simple but delicious breakfast in the morning (continental breakfast) and good service. ||||Just a word of warning--there is free parking BUT you will not be able to get to the spaces if your car is big--we had a Fiat 500 and barely made it through--the drive goes under a building and the clearance...

Yes, it is not a hot English breakfast banquet, to counter negative reviews, but this is Italy not England. If you are wanting the generic 'luxury' of major chain hotels, go stay somewhere boring; our room was spacious and had everything we needed. One negative reviewer said they could not fit in the shower - I reckon could fit three of me in the shower. Good wifi, so my husband could work. A pleasant 15-20 minute walk to the train station (so a synch to get to Cinque Terre) and town centre with restaurants and the harbour, botanic gardens etc....
Read moreAlthough a bit off the beaten path, this small, vintage hotel is character filled with modern(flat screen, wifi) conveniences. The host Fabio was engaging and helpful with restaurant recommendations and tourist information. The rooms were clean. There are a few fine places to eat within walking distance. The train station to Cinque Terre is a 15-20 minute walk. We walked into downtown La Spezia which is about 30 minutes.||If time permits visit Portovenere. If you take the bus, there is a bus stop(along the river) about a 8-10 minute walk from the hotel. No need to go to the port to catch it as it circles through town.||Buy your tickets at the Tabaccheria....2.50...
