La Spartana — Restaurant in La Spezia

Absolutely appalling service. The waiter was rude from the moment we entered the restaurant. It was unclear whether we order at the till or the table; we tried to call the waiter who made eye contact with us and did nothing. When we went to the till, he rudely gestured us to sit down. By that time, we were absolutely sick of it and decided to leave (we hadn't ordered anything or drink yet). As we were leaving, he came back and cursed at us in Italian. Once we had already left the premise, he followed us outside and kept pushing us to leave. He made an inappropriate racist gesture, and had it not been for his daughter, he would have started to get physical with us. It's unbelievable how we still face racism in 2024. Horrible racist experience.

We went in as 6 tourists looking for some pizza after a long day of hiking and immediately the owner was reluctant to sit us down. After a rude exchange of what we thought was due to a language barrier, we sat down. Having seated for 20 minutes and gestured multiple times that we were ready to order, the owner kept ignoring us. At this point, we have had enough and decided to leave politely. On the way out the owner kept swearing at us and called us "chino". He chased us outside, continuing his insults and even did the racist Asian eye gesture. Had his daughter not stepped in to stop him, who knew what he would have done. Maybe their pizza was good but we left the place with a bad taste in our mouth.
