During my holiday in Italy, my jewellery was stolen from my room in this hotel. The stolen items included a bag with newly purchased jewellery (with receipts, worth about €50) and my personal jewellery that I brought with me (worth around €300). I had placed them together in a visible spot among my souvenirs because the next day we were travelling to another city and I didn’t want to risk losing them on the way. After the room was cleaned, the bag disappeared. Passports, money, and other belongings were left untouched — only the jewellery was taken. This was clearly not a mistake but a targeted theft. The only person who had access to the room at that time was the cleaning staff. I immediately reported it to reception. They promised to “do everything possible” and told me the cleaner had “searched the trash,” but admitted that it was impossible to confuse the bag with rubbish. They asked me to provide receipts — I went back to the store, got a duplicate receipt for the new items, and sent it to them. Obviously, I couldn’t provide receipts for my older jewellery purchased in another country. After this, the hotel stopped replying to my messages. When I asked them to at least check the security camera footage (there was a camera right outside the room door), I received no response. The next day, the camera was already turned towards a wall (!) and was clearly useless. In the end: no compensation, no real assistance, no responsibility from the hotel — just complete disregard for the guest. Conclusion: jewellery is stolen by cleaning staff in this hotel, and the management covers for them. If you value your belongings and your peace of mind, never stay here.

Be WARNED!! When we arrived at the end of the street that led to this room we had to walk about a quarter of a mile up a grade to get to the steps that go up to the room. There are a HUNDRED AND THIRTY TWO STEPS to get up to the room!! (see pictures) My wife and I traveled all over Italy to celebrate our 55th anniversary. We stayed mostly in high end luxury hotels but decided, just this once, to be adventurous (read stupid) and book a B&B. We are 75 years old and had three back packs and two 45lb suitcases with us. I messaged the agent to see if we could get help. The quick answer, NO! We are in relatively good shape but this was ridiculous.. I carried the cases up the steps. The room is small and smelled. The "beautiful terrace" is another two flights up and consists of a roof covered poorly with AstroTurf. The train station is close but NOTHING else is. We didn't have the energy to go back down to go to a restaurant for dinner so we just skipped it that night. A few blocks away is the Hotel Firenze e Continentale for only a few dollars more but it was completely booked by people smarter than me! I'm sorry but there is just nothing good to say about this place. When I checked the reviews before I booked they were all five stars! After we got in the room I went back and checked (I had nothing else to do) and I noticed that the reviews were all over a year old when someone named Marco was running the place.

Marco is the most attentive and friendly host. He truly went above and beyond to make our check-in and stay as seamless as possible, helping me find free parking and carrying our our luggage to and from my car for check-in and check-out. The apartment itself was super clean and modern and kept spotless by Marco. He serves free breakfast on the amazing rooftop with a view, where we spent a good amount of time after our daily excursions to watch the sunset. The location is convenient, just a 5-10 minute walk to the main train station, and a 20 minute walk to the ports of La Spezia if you want to take the ferry. There are a ton of restaurants nearby and a Coop (supermarket) as well. Highly recommended place, we would love to return if we go back to the area :)
