Trenitalia staff you need to shout louder or have megaphones at the stations
Today I paid €81 euro for cinque terre tickets for 3 people and were informed we could hop on and hop off all trains on the route to and from La Spezia to Levante. THIS IS A LIE. We travelled the route to levante and came back via Monterosso al mare when we got on a train that stopped on route to La Spezia. On the train we were spoken to by a rouse female conductor who stated she shouted on the station not to join the train if using cinque terre tickets. The engines are too loud I am deaf in one ear How is any impaired tourist supposed to know this when initially informed all fares were covered. We paid over €45 for. 6 minute journey that was already paid for a disgrace to be treated in this manner This in my opinion is a ruse by Trensitaliia to catch unknowing tourist out I bet every day they get unsuspecting tourists in the same position. DONT BOTHER TRAVELIING hire a car or get a bus. It’s cheaper and less trouble. Never be back here and will never recommend using Trens Italia again. Looks like Asia next...
Read moreWe bought 4 tickets (€64) to visit Cinque Terra during the whole day. We took our first train from la Spezia to the last village at 9h and it was packed with people already, but it was on time at least. The ticket allows you to hop on and off the train to visit every village ,as many times as you wish. The next train we took was delayed 30 minutes and it was impossible to fit in, people pushing and arguing for a space inside a train without air contioned. And so on, every village we faced a delayed train and dangerous conditions of crowds of people going in and out under high temperatures of August. We had never seen something similar. We left the first village, which was our last, without visiting, to avoid repeating the horrible train experience again. Definetely a pity to promote a beautiful area like this, packed with local people and tourists and with such a bad transport. A pity as the area is...
Read moreNot really sure what all the poor reviews are about. There are lifts to the platforms. It gets quite busy in the mornings with everyone setting off to Cinque Terra, but much quieter in the afternoons (so better if you're visiting the tourist office and don't want to wait in the queues). Staff are quite helpful - generally assuming you just want the Cinque Terra card, but if you ask they can provide more info. I didn't interact with any of the other railway staff. Clear departure boards, and staff available on platform 1 to help you find the right train.
It's about 15 mins walk to the center of town, but the walk from the station is mostly pedestrianised, with shops/cafes/restaurants. Maybe 35-40 mins walk to the cruise terminal...
