For some fabulous views over La Spazia, the Castello San Giorgio is definitely worth a visit.

We paid for both the Castello and the museum within ( which was only a small amount more) just to support the venue. The museum is not a major element of the visit.

To our surprise, as we were there for an hour, there wasn't another single visitor to be seen. I suspect most had crowded into boats and trains to visit the hellishly packed villages of Cinque Terra.

The views alone are worth the visit. If you are put off by a potential long climb, just follow the main sign through the town. These will lead you first to an elevator, and then to a small funicular. Leaving your energy to climb within the castle itself.

If its is always quiet this is a good place to shake off the mass of day tourists!

We enjoyed it and...

Is in the heart of the city. There is a little train that you can take a city tour that passes by. But if you are walking around town you will find yourself in a street that everyone goes as there is a lot of stores, bars & restaurants. There is sign on the steet indicating with arrows how to get there. There in an elevator in certain point that is free of charge. That elevator will get you literally right across the main entrance. For few euros you can visit not only the castle but the museum inside. The views from the top...

Entire building is not that impressive when you look at it from the bottom but when you get inside and take a walk to the top you will enjoy it for sure. The view on the city, shipyard and sea which is closing horizon is outstanding! It's not that expansive to go there but for me it was the best place to see the city from the top. Definitely recommended for people who love top view as much as I do :)
