Hotel la Certosa — Hotel in Massa Lubrense

I arrived at Hotel la Certosa quite late (10pm) and Alfonso was incredibly welcoming, he even carried my suitcase up the stairs to my room for me (and it was heavy)! The hotel is beautiful and I felt like I was staying in someone’s home, rather than a standard commercial hotel. I’d emailed Alfonso a couple of times before arriving to ask a few questions and to check if my late arrival was ok, he always responded quickly and I immediately felt reassured and comfortable about staying here.||My room was lovely, and very clean. There was a small entrance which separated the main room and the bathroom, and I was delighted to find that I had a balcony which overlooked the mountain! The bed was much larger than I expected and the wardrobe easily fit all of my clothes in. The bathroom sink was a very good size and there was no issue with the shower pressure and temperature. My room was cleaned and the bed was made every day. The tourist tax for here is €2.50 per day, which I felt was very reasonable.||I had paid for bed and breakfast and I was not disappointed - I couldn’t believe the amount of food that was laid out on my table! There were croissants with different fillings; warm bread; jams and spreads; fruit; cold meats; cheese; yoghurts; cakes; and, of course, coffee! The cherry on top was the incredible view I had of Nerano Bay, absolutely stunning. ||Staying at Hotel la Certosa means that you automatically have a sun lounger provided, so no need to rush to save a space! I had forgotten my beach towel but was immediately provided with one once I asked for it. After spending some time on the beach, I decided to have lunch at the hotel restaurant, Da Pappone. Once again, I was not disappointed. The Sorrento tomato and mozzarella salad and the seafood scialatielli were wonderful! ||I was unsure about how to get to Sorrento, however the lady who works in the Alimentari Tabacchi shop over the road was incredibly helpful. She showed me the bus timetable and I was able to purchase bus tickets in the shop (€1.50 each way). It takes around an hour to get to Sorrento train station. The app I found most useful for travelling was the Unico Campania app. Here you can plan your route and pay for your tickets. I also used Google Maps to make sure I was going to the correct location for my excursion pick-ups. ||As a solo traveller I was particularly nervous about travelling to Sorrento, Pompei and the Herculaneum, however the bus drivers and train ticket staff were always very helpful and friendly. They would always explain which bus would take me to Nerano Cantone (where Hotel la Certosa is) and which train or platform I needed for each journey. ||One thing I didn’t realise about the trains is that the Campania Express charges €15 each way (Sorrento to Naples) because you are guaranteed a seat. However, I realised (from the Unico Campania app) that standard train tickets only cost €2.80/€3.50 each way, depending on your journey. ||Towards the end of my stay, I decided that I wanted to visit Capri. Cooperativa S.Antonio were recommended and their excursions leave from directly outside the hotel. This is a fantastic day excursion and I was very grateful for the recommendation by the hotel.||On my final day my transport wasn’t due until 5pm, however Alfonso offered to let me keep my room until I was ready to leave. This was very much appreciated and made my final day much less stressful! This charming hotel converted from a former monastery is an absolute gem!|Situated as it is you really couldn't get closer to the sea, personally I think the setting in this beautiful bay is just perfect.|It's a great place for swimming, there are plenty of sun beds and umbrellas which are free for guests to use on the private section of the pebble beach; Massimo is on hand to erect and locate your umbrella and he is the lifeguard as well, keeping an eye on swimmers etc.|We had a large room to the side/rear of the building, equipped with a large double bed and two singles, a lovely bathroom and a terrace with two loungers, a table and two chairs. The room was air conditioned and had a fridge.|Daily maid service ensured that the room was spotlessly clean and fresh towels available on request.|The food offer is excellent, everything fresh and cooked to order; the menu is mainly fish and other seafood, all of which is beautifully presented although there two meat options; we only had the lamb which was delicious (order sides of sliced baked potatoes) but the beef we saw being served looked superb.|You must have the Spaghettone Del Nerano at least once during your stay, I think I had it three times during our 11 night stay (once for lunch).|And now to the staff...what can I say, they made our stay like home from home, lovely people, nothing was too much ask for; got to mention Alessandro who kindly rescued us when we became stranded in Sorrento one evening! He also came in early on the morning of our departure to make sure we had some delicious coffee before being picked up, he is a really nice guy.|I must mention Antonio, full of fun and very attentive, he is also very knowledgeable about dishes served in the restaurant; if you come here you're going to make friends with Alfonso who runs the hotel and all of his staff; honestly, after a couple of days we felt like family; they even surprised my wife with a birthday tiramisu one evening!|We were sad to be leaving but very happy to have stayed at this great place and met such lovely people...we will return but until next time...

Ich bin Fan dieses 3-Sterne-Hotels, seit ich ein Jahr zuvor bereits zwei Nächte dort übernachtet habe. Damals war mir klar: Da muss ich wieder hin. Im Oktober 2018 bin ich mit meiner Frau für 14 Tage dort gewesen. Wir haben das Hotel als Ausgangspunkt für sehr schöne Wanderungen auf der Halbinsel genutzt, haben Ausflüge nach Amalfi, Sorrent, Pompeji und Positano gemacht und viel Zeit auf der Liege am Strand und im Wasser verbracht. Wir hatten bestes Wetter (kein Regen, warm und sonnig). Die Lage: Das Hotel liegt direkt am Strand in einem Ort, der etwas außerhalb der eigentlichen Touristenströme an der Amalfiküste liegt. Direkt am Strand befinden sich weitere Hotels, Pensionen und Ferienwohnung sowie eine Reihe netter Restaurants und Cafes. Im Oktober war es dort relativ ruhig, nur wenige Gäste, außer an den Wochenenden. Vom Hotel aus erreicht man bequem die Bushaltestelle der SITA, die mehrmals täglich den Ort anfährt und mit der man in einer einstündigen Fahrt Sorrent erreichen kann. Daher haben wir auf einen Mietwagen verzichtet, was wir keine Minute bereut haben. Ein weiteres Plus: Direkt vor dem Hotel liegt ein Bootsanleger, von dem aus täglich Schiffe nach Capri und Amalfi/Positano fahren. Nicht ganz preiswert, dafür aber sehr bequem, denn man spart sich die doch etwas aufregendere Fahrt mit dem Bus. Tickets kann man direkt am Strand kaufen. Das Zimmer: Wir haben ein großes Zimmer im ersten Stock gebucht - mit Meerblick (siehe Foto)! Das Bett war sehr groß und die Matratze sehr gut und rückenfreundlich. Das Zimmer ist mit einem Schrank, einem Zustellbett, Nachtschränken, 2 Stühlen, einem Schreibtisch und einem Flachbildschirm (kein deutsches TV) ausgestattet. Das Bad mit Dusche, Bidet, Toilette und Waschbecken wirkte mit seinen in überwiegend blau gehaltenen Fliesen sehr schön. Der Boden ist typisch italienisch gefließt. Ideal für Allergiker. Es gibt eine Klimaanlage, die wir aber nicht genutzt haben. Das Zimmer war sehr sauber. Jeden Tag wurde es gereinigt, das Bett gemacht und alle drei Tage wurde das Bettzeug und die Handtücher gewechselt. Perfekt! Im Zimmer gab es leider keinen WLAN-Empfang (ausschließlich im Restaurant und auf der Terrasse). Das Frühstück: Das ist nach meiner Erfahrungen in Italien oft anders, als wir es aus deutschen Hotels gewohnt sind. Im Hotel la Certosa gab es jeden morgen frisches Obst, auf Wunsch im Preis enthaltenen frisch gebrühten Kaffee in verschiedensten Varianten, Brot, Kuchen und Wurst, Salami und Käse. Auch Milch für Müsli und Joghurt war da. Ich fand es in Ordnung, ist aber bestimmt noch ausbaufähig. Das Hotelrestaurant Da Pappone: Spätestens hier zeigt sich, dass es sich bei dem Hotel ursprünglich um ein Kloster gehandelt hat. Das Restaurant verfügt über eine große überdachte und verschließbare Terrasse. Dahinter befindet sich das eigentlich Restaurant in einem gewölbten Saal, der wohl ursprünglich als Raum für Messen genutzt wurde. Hier hängen Fotos aus der Geschichte des Hotels und ein signiertes Foto des Tänzers Nurejew, der ganz in der Nähe eine kleine Insel bewohnte und hier wohl öfter zu Gast war. Das Essen: Wir haben dort mehrmals gegessen. Der Fisch ist fangfrisch und wird täglich, soweit wir das mitbekommen haben, direkt vom Fischerboot angeliefert und direkt verarbeitet. Die Vorspeisen sind sehr gut und die Pasta hat mir persönlich am besten gefallen. Zum Essen tranken wir den Vino de Casa in rot oder weiß. Der Wein kommt aus der Region und schmeckte uns gut. Der Service: Das Hotel ist familiengeführt und die Familienmitglieder kümmern sich um ihre Gäste. Obwohl ich kein Italienisch spreche, konnte ich mich gut auf Englisch verständigen. Meine Frau und ich wurden immer freundlich und zuvorkommend bedient.

Zusammenfassend kann ich sagen: Wer es ruhiger und mehr "italienisch" mag, ist hier bestens aufgehoben. Ein Tipp: Unbedingt ein Zimmer mit Meerblick buchen, wenn man dort länger bleibt. Es sei denn, man stört sich an dem ununterbrochenen...
