Casa Babbuino — Hotel in Verona

Lovely b&b in Veroneta. If this hotel was in the middle of Verona old city would be perfection but even then it is great and I do recommend it. For people that don’t mind walking it is just 20 mins to the edge of the old city and 15 or so to the train station. Late at night walking alone as a female might feel a bit sketchy but I don’t think it’s dangerous.

My biker room was fabulous. Big, cozy, beautifully decorated with lots of attention to detail, cozy, super comfy bed and pillows (something I’d never take for granted-thank you) practical and with a good tv w streaming services, big bathroom and super modern. The perfect room for a long stay!

The only thing is that I could hear a lot of noise coming from the apartment above and also water running constantly when they were using the bathroom. There’s a cool desk so would be good to have some pen and paper-useful. And a print out of the recommendations in each room.

Owners are very helpful when messaged on WhatsApp but the new volunteers shouldn’t be left to manage the B&B if the owners don’t want their rating going down.

While they probably do an OK job generally, they provide no introduction or information about the B&B when checking in (e.g. how the kitchen works, who to contact if any issues, etc) they have zero local knowledge so can’t help with any info or recommendations and are usually lounging around in their pijamas without any interest in engaging in conversation about Verona. Merely answer to “hello”. They should also keep the kitchen cleaner and the rubbish bins usable as they were always falling apart. When checking out, one of them saw me struggling to bring the bag down and could not even offer to help. They did not tidy up the room every night and on the last night when they did (because I asked for a new towel) they left the one dirty bowl I had in the room In the middle of the table, I think it could have been a small nice gesture to just taking it to the kitchen. Same as providing some tea which I clearly run out of.

It’s never the same as having a paid professional host/employee or the owners looking after the property and guests. Good to give them some...

I visited Casa Babbuino mid July, my first three impressions where immediately positive: I arrived during the night … it was very easy to get a self check in with super fast and nice communication Like 5 min / 350m away from the hotel is a public parking space for 5,- a day … there was always a lot of spaces available. Next to this in the streets it might be even possible to park for free .. I am not 100% sure of that When I arrived at the hotel (the entrance is not so easy to find, because there is no big name in it .. but is this beautiful green door ..) the lobby was already to tasteful arranged .. the next I noticed was the absolutely gorgeous garden … then I entered my room and it was really big, the furniture was classy and new .. large bathroom… From the hotel to the start of the “old town” it’s like 10-15 min walk .. just one street easy to find. A supermarket is like 200 m away and some restaurants are around the corner. Over all the area is very quiet. With the easy parking options it’s a good starting point to visit locations around Verona .. like lake Garda is a 30 min drive. Thanks for the nice visited and especially the gin tonic at the end. Der Check-In durch Nicki aus Belgien war sehr freundlich und ich habe mich willkommen gefühlt. Positiv aufgefallen ist mir auch, dass bei Ihnen kein Foto des Ausweises gemacht wird, sondern nur die Daten notiert werden. Das Zimmer war groß und stylish eingerichtet.

Aber:

Fast alle Bewertungen schreiben, wie ruhig es ist?! Bei den Zimmern zur Straße raus hört man viel Straßenlärm und Gespräche! Es ist auch seltsam, dass Sie bei Google NUR positive Bewertungen und einen 5-Sterne-Durchschnitt haben....

Sie sind laut Homepage in "einem der schönsten Viertel Veronas"? Dem kann ich nicht zustimmen. Auf der Straße ist es schmutzig und die Leute dort vermittelten mir kein sicheres Gefühl.

Ich war im Zimmer "Musica": Es gibt keinen Safe, keinen Kleiderschrank, was in einer Unterkunft dieser Preisklasse aber Standard sein sollte. An der Duschkabine ist unten orangefarbener Kalk und es lag ein Haar deutlich sichtbar auf der weißen Umrandung der Dusche. Der Toilettenpapierhalter wackelt, die Halterung für den schmutzigen Duschkopf rutschte immer nach unten und hielt nicht oben. Die Kunstpflanze im Bad ist verstaubt. Am Kabel der Nachttischlampe ist ebenfalls viel Schmutz, siehe Fotos.

Checkout ist laut Tafel an der Rezeption nur in einem Zeitfenster von anderthalb Stunden möglich und nicht mal da war jemand zugegen, um das Gepäck entgegen zu nehmen und sicher zu verwahren (siehe Angebot bei booking.com). Um 9:30 Uhr kam die Reinigungsfrau, parkte ihr Fahrrad quer vorm Eingang und teilte mir mit, dass ich das Gepäck einfach stehen lassen soll. Eine sichere Verwahrung ist das nicht.

Laut dem von Ihnen erstellten Eintrag auf booking.com bieten Sie eine "rund um die Uhr besetzte Rezeption"? Das war einer der Gründe, warum ich bei Innen gebucht habe. Die Rezeption ist aber maximal stundenweise besetzt! Einen Kühlschrank im Zimmer habe ich nicht gesehen. Auch die Küche fehlt komplett, ebenso andere Dinge, siehe gelbe Markierungen auf den Screenshots.

Das Café, mit dem sie zusammenarbeiten, hat sonntags geschlossen.

Im Vorfeld habe ich dreimal dieselbe Nachricht, zweimal als E-Mail und einmal per WhatsApp erhalten mit Informationen zu Check-In, Parkmöglichkeiten und so weiter. Einmal würde reichen. Außerdem mag ich es nicht, wenn meine Handynummer für WhatsApp missbraucht wird. Sie sollte nur genutzt werden, um in einem Notfall anzurufen! Kommunikation lieber über booking.com.

Für eine Nacht habe ich im Einzelzimmer ohne Frühstück 145 € bezahlt und die Unterkunft war das Geld leider...
