On a recent 1st trip to Japan, this was the first hotel we stayed in due to its close proximity to our Japanese travelling companion.||||As mentioned in previous reviews, this hotel is situated within the same building as Hon-Atsugi mainline train station which made it very convenient without the trains being at all intrusive. It is also well situated for a wide range of shops within and just outside the building. A taxi rank is located just outside the hotel.||||Although the rooms are a little dated, ours was comfortable and by far the largest hotel room we encountered on our holiday though still small by British standards. The room was well appointed with a double bed, desk, fridge and two wardrobes (again, the only hotel we stayed in which offered this!). The bathroom was effectively a plastic module dropped into the corner of the hotel room. Although this felt a little like being in a caravan, it worked well and turned out to be typical of Japanese hotels including the all singing, all dancing electric toilet!||||The hotel Reception staff (located on the 5th floor from street level) were polite and courteous and were able to check us in and out in acceptable English. Note that in all Japanese hotels, you pay on arrival and need to complete a comprehensive check in process which included giving details of your travel itinerary.||||We missed the breakfast on the first day due to oversleeping (and the 9 hours time difference!) but breakfast on the 2nd day, although simple, was tasty and included cereals, pastries, coffee and the usual continental ham and cheese etc. Typical Japanese breakfast food is also available as is a selection of fruit juices from a machine.||||The Wifi in the room was good and there was also a publically accessible computer in a small lobby next to the Reception.||||As a 1st stop hotel and only wanting to be in the area for a couple of days whilst we got our bearings, we were very impressed and would most definitely return if in the vicinity, particularly as the hotel has self-service laundry...
Read moreLocation - Just above Hon-Atsugi station. And if your room faces the station, you will hear a little sound from the station. Once you come out of the hotel/station, there are plenty of shops, restaurants, gaming zones, pub, convenience stores, super markets, bus terminus and in short everything. Coming to front desk, people are quite polite as is the case in almost every part of Japan but are equipped only with basic knowledge in English. As long as you're on your own and don't expect much information from them, then there shouldn't be much of a trouble. Coming to the room, it is quite small and so is the bathroom with attached toilet with Bidet closet. As someone had rightly mentioned in the review, the bathroom looks like a plastic box :). Bed was quite comfortable. Room had a mini fridge, flat TV (but with few Japanese channels only), small cupboard for clothes, another mini cupboard with a small draw, a decent table to work and a tea-table/chair. Everything was pretty neat and the house keeping does a very good job in achieving this. Regarding breakfast, they serve bread (and there are couple of toasters available), salad, Yoghurt, 2 varieties of buns, a Japanese style dish made out of rice, milk and orange juice. Tea/Coffee/Consomme soup machine is available in the breakfast room located adjacent to the front-desk 24 hours. Coming to other facilities, there are couple of rooms one for gents and another for ladies with 2 massage chairs each, a microwave oven in 6th floor, 3 vending machine (this again I spotted in 6th floor and not too sure whether they're available in other floors as well), nightwear dress, Trouser folding machine, paid clothes Washing/Drying machines, good Wi-fi and few basic toiletries to grab from front-desk. Overall, if you're on business, not looking at much space to walk in your room, interested in having a lively surrounding outside the building and of course a comfortable bed to sleep, then this could be a...
Read moreOutstanding value in Atsugi. Excellent staff, they all go out of their way to meet any need. Rooms are large by Japanese standards, extremely clean and complete with a large flat screen TV and computer work desk.
Located inside the Odakyu Station Hon Atsugi, the lobby is on the 5th floor of the station. The lobby elevator is tucked away in a corner of the South entrance. This can be a bit confusing since the bus from both Hanita and Narita airports stop, not at the front of the station, but a short distance away from the North entrance. Just go Thru the station and the hotel entrance is on the left just before the South exit. GPS is useless, sent me in circles around the station-best just to ask, everyone is extremely polite and helpful.
Tip for US travelers. The hotel does not use 3 prong grounded outlets. Bring your two prong adapter along if you want to power laptops etc.
Tip for us older folks: the hotel has soaking bathtubs which means there are very high sides and a large step up to get in and out. Also, for some strange reason, there is a large step up to get into the bathroom itself and the doorway is very narrow. Not a problem, just something to know about should that be an issue for you.
Public transportation is literally at your door to anywhere, Train, bus, and taxi. Shopping, restaurants, bars and adult entertainment are all there as well.
Highly recommend the hotel. Not a single thing to really...
