The western style room was large by Japanese standard, toilet was spacious, clean. Location, at least a 20-25 minute walk from the train station, was a major plus IF you are visiting for the bamboo light festival or just keen on strolling the old town. a cab ride from the bus station cost about 800-900 yen. However, prices were steep during the festival and if you are driving, you may have some problem getting to the hotel then because some roads were closed. The owner's English speaking son, Mao, who helps out at the hotel, was an added bonus. I say this because Hita, although a relatively large city, has very FEW people who speak English - tourist information staff included. Mao, who studied in the US, was very knowledgeable about nearby restaurants, what to buy etc. Dinner was taken at the adjoining restaurant, also operated by the hotel. One small disappointment was the food. We felt perhaps there should be a choice for Japanese meals. I noted that most who stayed at the hotel were Japanese, so the Western/Japanese fusion cuisine may have been more appealing to them. However, for non-Japanese visitors, a choice of traditional Kaiseki dinner would have been better. The Hinoki bath was a tad small but the hotel only have a few rooms. They also had massage chairs in the women's changing room (none in the men's), which was a nice touch, as with the sitting area where you can have a cup of relaxing coffee after breakfast overlooking bamboo trees. WIFI throughout...
Read moreOur group of 13 recently booked out this 6 bedroom boutique hotel for 3 nights. Every member of our group was delighted with the refined, Japanese-Western fusion appointments. Each room has its own bathroom (one with a cedar bath) and there are also men's and women's onsen. The women's onsen has 2 massage chairs to add to the relaxation. The Japanese/French meal we had at the hotel's restaurant was top class and the Japanese breakfasts each morning were delicious. After breakfast each morning we were served coffee in the lounge. The tasteful and comfortable lounge was a great place for our group to gather in the evening and share a drink from the fridge there. It certainly contributed to how well our group bonded. What makes this hotel so outstanding, however, is the above and beyond level of hospitality of Mao san and his staff. His level of service was extremely generous and kind - he even picked us up at the station when we returned at 11pm one night and another night walked us to a local restaurant and even...
Read moreThis is a lovely little ryokan in the historic area of Hita and everything here is just perfect. We had the kaseiki dinner that was exceptional and the Japanese breakfast that was almost as good. The staff is unbelievably attentive. A non-feather pillow was brought up to us in minutes. A needed belt for the Hakata came in seconds. The wait staff were fantastic. ||There is a small indoor public bath but with only 6 rooms it hardly needs to be any larger. And the room itself was spacious wth all the comforts you could ask for. ||The staff speak some English and of course there is the owners son - Mao - who is fluent in English and is delightful with tourist suggestions and he even offered to drive us to the JR. ||It’s really hard to find anything to say by way of “continuous improvement.” Just keep up the great work. ||I would definitely recommend this small boutique hotel to anyone...
