SO GOOD! This Modern Japanese farm-to-table restaurant in Hita is a rare find. The locally sourced food is fresh, organic and exquisitely prepared, and the decor is tasteful and welcoming. The proprietor calls it “home cooking,” but that could be only be true if your home has an amazing and inventive cook. (Mine does not). The menu is a set menu, so all you have to do is sit down and enjoy. I had sea bream stuffed with fresh carrots and shiitake, freshly-picked fava beans, sashimi with young green onions and radish sprouts, Asari clam miso soup, fresh salad with radishes and tomatoes, and duck-grown rice. Even the rice here is special—organically grown by the "aigamo method,” in which ducklings help the rice seedlings grow by eating the insects and weeds so pesticides and herbicides aren’t needed. In addition to being a great cook, the proprietor of Un Grain is warm and friendly. She will be patient with you if you don’t speak Japanese and need to use a translation app to read the menu and communicate. She even makes her own homemade ginger soda, scones, and Basque cheesecake. Un Grain is a dream! (Reservations can be made via Instagram or Line and are recommended. If you can't write in Japanese, she will use translation software.) Parking available....

It was after 2pm when we spied the menu set at the door (using Google translate). We finished with a coffee and shared burnt honey ice cream, made on premises. A background of easy listening jazz made for delightful meal and overall experience this. There is an English translation menu for those...

Our first meal at Kyushu and it didn't disappoint us. It only offer one set meal on the menu on that day with some ala carte drinks and desserts. Surprising none of us complaint lack of options and all felt satisfied and finished everything, including the rice! Fresh ingredients with simple herbs make this special. The shop deco is minimalist and makes it a very comfortable...
