Rooms seem to be newly updated, so everything was still fresh and clean. We stayed in the japanese twin room with a private open-aired bathtub overlooking the river.
3 of the 4 private baths were really nice, the other was just a tub overlooking the same river, which we had in our room, so we opted to skip it. Private baths can be accessed whenever available (link to check occupancy status provided by staff) so I recommend arriving on time for check in, and trying all the bath before everyone else arrives.
The public bathes are definitely showing its age and hasn't been updated. I'd only suggest coming here if you're a completionist.
The dinner spread was wonderful! Their egg custard was amazing and the chicken wasabi themed dinner was delightful. The wasabi rice porridge will definitely put a stop to anyone that may still be feeling hungry. The breakfast spread was nice as well!
It seems that all the neighboring Ryokans (and the city) is increasing efforts to make the surrounding area more tourist friendly by connecting pathways (onsen to onsen) for people to stroll through and along the river. Some parts of the pathways light up at night too.
The only complaint I would have would be the ninja ladybugs that keep coming back into the rooms, even though we made sure all windows were closed. The buggers were harmless and took a liking to the washroom mirror. Luckily, they stayed out of our beds.
The trip to the Ryokan definitely took some time. Coming from Osaka, it took about 4 hrs total. There's a bit of walking involved after getting off the local bus, so if you've got a lot to carry, I would utilize the coin lockers at the local station (or at JR Mishima) to save some of effort.
Overall, we had a beautiful stay at Tatsuta Ryokan Izu, and even though it's listed as a 3 star, it definitely felt like a 4! Would definitely recommend considering this Ryokan for...
Read moreFrom the moment we arrived at Tatsuta Ryokan in the serene countryside of Izu, it was clear this was going to be the highlight of our trip. Nestled amidst lush maples and a gentle riverside, the ryokan offered an enchanting blend of traditional Japanese elegance and modern comforts.
Our high-floor room was a spacious haven, where the soothing sounds of the river below added an extra layer of tranquility to our stay. The private onsen in our room was a luxurious touch, automatically refilling to ensure a seamless experience.
The culinary journey was equally impressive. Both breakfast and dinner were luxurious affairs, showcasing a range of local flavors and exquisite presentation that made each meal a delight.
Travel to the ryokan was an adventure in itself, taking around 1 hour and 20 minutes from Mishima Station by train and bus. This journey through the scenic landscapes set the tone for our stay. We made the most of our trip by visiting local attractions like Mishima Taisha and the Mishima Skywalk, which added a cultural richness to our experience.
One of the unique features of this ryokan is its variety of onsens. Each of the four onsens has a distinct design, offering different experiences that invite exploration and relaxation.
The surrounding area is a testament to Japan’s natural beauty, with the Izu Panorama Park being a must-visit to witness breathtaking views of the seaside and Mount Fuji.
In conclusion, this ryokan is more than just a place to stay; it’s an experience that encapsulates the essence of Japanese hospitality and beauty. Its tranquil setting, combined with impeccable service and facilities, ensures an unforgettable retreat. We are already looking forward to...
Read more1 hot springs|The main factor that this hotel wishes to present is the hot springs, or ONSEN in Japanese. They actually are quite good. They have four private-style onsen rooms. You don't have to reserve; go see and if it is empty, you can use it. Don't forget to lock the door!||2 food|The food is poor. The food that is supposed to be served hot was often served tepid (sometimes cold). The food that is supposed to be served cold was sometimes frozen. I especially did not like the boiled fish: too strongly seasoned, and not warm enough. We also ordered a bottle of white wine. It took about 15 minutes for them to bring it to us. The quality of the food and the service were far from good.||3 accommodation|Since it is a "renewed" hotel, some facilities are old. The room itself was new and clean, but some equipments such as bathrooms and windows were not. Some may feel uncomfortable due to the malodor. Our room was on the top floor so it was quiet at night, but those who stayed on the ground floor said the noise of the river current was more disturbing that they had thought. But I can see that the employees are working hard to clean them up.||4 price|We went on a rush season, so they price was quite expensive, about 55,000 per room. To be honest, the price is too high for the service and the food. If it was about 30,000 yen, well we could think it would be fair.||5 English|Every signs including the food menu are in Japanese. I cannot say for sure, but i cannot expect any English speaking staff.||6 Overall|I would not visit there...
