Hotel Tenbo — Hotel in Izunokuni

THIS IS A HIDDEN GEM. Everything was amazing, the hospitality, friendly staffs, great meals and onsen. It’s been a month since I visited them but I often remember bits of moments I had in this hotel. It was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had.

If you want to plan a stay to enjoy hot spring and relax in a room, I highly recommend this hot print town, Izunagaoka. There aren’t many attractions in the area unlike Hakone, but it is a lot more affordable and you will get a lot more value and better quality in Izunagaoka.

It is very accessible, only one train away from Mishima, which is also a great place to explore for its historical shrine, viewing spots to see Mt Fuji and local specialties (famous for Unagi).

We took a train to go to Izunagaoka station from Mishima and changed to a local bus. It takes you to a bus stop which is right in front of the hotel so it can’t be more convenient.

As soon as we approached the entrance, a staff came outside and welcomed us. The check in was very smooth and quick. I paid at the property and it was around 56,000 yen for a night with onsen in the room with two meals. (They also offered a 50? Mins use of private onsen room for free as it wasn’t booked up on that day, which was very generous of them)

We entered the room and pleasantly surprised how spacious it was. The whole room was very clean and bright with huge sliding windows, that can be fully opened up, overlooking a mountain.

As soon as I explored the room, the first thing I noticed was that they paid attention to details. It was a warm day so I was thirsty when I arrived. Then I found a thermos jug filled with icey water and the kettle already had hot water so that I could make tea without having to do all that. I was so pleased by the hospitality…it was so thoughtful. I made a pot of green tea to enjoy little welcome sweets.

The private hot spring was the best feature of the room (obviously) and it was by far the biggest we’ve ever had. It easily fits two people with a lot of space to stretch out. The quality of onsen felt really nice as well. As far as I remember it’s not diluted or filtered. Pure hot spring water. The temperature was not too hot, the right temperature and you can adjust it by adding hot/cold water. We had a view of a mountain and it was a breezy day in spring. It was so relaxing.

Also, the bed and duvet were like THE BEST, so soft and comfortable but supported my body in the best way possible. The mattress was firm but had a soft topper on top. I slept like a baby at night. (I have a dodgey back so cannot sleep on a soft mattress)

There were a set of Yukata at different sizes, a lot of towels and extra set of pillows. They literally provided everything anyone would ever need.

The dinner and breakfast were so nice too. They offer a buffet for side dishes, salad, soup and drinks along with a set of course meals. I actually wasn’t that keen considering the price but I was so wrong. Everything was delicious. Especially sashimi.

I often get disappointed by sashimi whenever I stay in a ryokan (even in a coastal areas). But the sashimi I had at this hotel was one of THE BEST I’ve ever had in my entire life (look at the photo). Honestly, the tuna melted in my mouth and had the most intense umami. To top it off, they serve sashimi with real fresh wasabi (Shizuoka produces one of the best wasabi). That was absolutely phenomenal. The whole meal was so good and I was well stuffed.

There’s a foot bath outside of the public bath area with a milk vending machine. It was such a great addition to have, it was so fun. We bought jars of milk and had a foot bath at night while gazing at stars.

I can’t properly put everything together to describe how amazing my experience at this hotel was, as my English is limited. But it was one of the best memories I’ve ever had and I often daydream and remember the beautiful moments from this trip.

源泉かけ流し露天風呂付洋室：「天風の息吹」:304号室を利用。この部屋は３度目であり、久しぶりに利用。部屋の中は以前と特に変わらない感じでしたが、少し汗臭い感じがしまいた。空気清浄機を借りてしばらく動作させたら、無くなりました。床が木製であり、素足で利用しているためでしょうか。 以前露天風呂は、事前に水を入れないと熱くて入れない状態でしたが、今回は、温度が丁度よく、水を入れる必要がありませんでした。今回初めて気づいたのですが、露天風呂から富士山の頭のみを見ることができました。この部屋から富士山を見たのは初めてです（以前利用した最上階の特別和洋室からは富士山をしっかり見ることができます）。 この部屋の隣が貸切風呂（部屋に温泉があるので利用しませんが）、大浴場が近いので温泉好きの方にはお勧めな部屋です。大浴場は、広く、露天風呂は、３種類あり、それぞれが温度が違うのがててもいいです。自分が気に入った温度の温泉につかることができます。 夕食は、コース料理とミニバイキング。コースもおいしですが、ミニバイキングの桜海老御飯が最高です。朝食バイキング・ランチバイキングでは食べられず、夕食のみ食べられます

ツインルームを利用。7階の西側に窓がある部屋です。高い位置にあるが見えるのは住宅街。チェックイン時は西日があたり、少し熱かったです。この部屋で残念だったのが、冷蔵庫。自販機等で購入した飲み物を入れる所がなく、冷蔵庫にある飲み物を取り出すと自動精算されるタイプでした。これまで、露天風呂付「天遊のテラス」、露天風呂付「天風の息吹」、特別和洋室を利用しましたが、自動精算の形になっていないく、かつ、自販機等で購入した飲み物を入れるスペースがありました。 大浴場は、内風呂が広いのと露天風呂が３種類あり、いずれも温度が異なっていて、 露天岩風呂が一番低い温度で、長く入ることができました。一番熱いのが、檜葉造りの露天風呂でした。温度を変えて温泉を楽しむことができる大浴場を気に入っています。 食事処は、他の顧客と仕切りで区切られており、一つのデーブルのスペースが広いです。 夕食はハーフバイキングの形式なのでボユームがあります。私は、桜海老ご飯が好きです。 普段ご飯系は最後に食べるのですが、料理のボユームがあるので、最後だと食べられないこともあるため、早めに食べています。桜海老ご飯は朝食にはないため、夕食で必ず食べるようにしています。 ～～～～～～～～～～～～～～～～～～～～～～～～～～～～＝ 最上階の特別和洋室は、和室、リビング、ベットルームとわかれており、とても広かったです。部屋が富士山側にあり、富士山がよく見えました。部屋に温泉があれば最高です。

来年、４Fの富士山側に半露天付きの客室ができるとのことでとても楽しみにしています。

”天遊のテラス”には、露天の岩風呂が２つあり、循環式の温泉なので、温度はちょうどいいです。冬場なので、お風呂に入るまでがとても寒いのですが、温度がちょうどいいので、すぐに入れるのはとてもいいです。 ”天風の息吹”の方だとかけ流しの露天風呂なので、入るまでも温度を合わせる時間が必要なので、冬場は、”天遊のテラス”の方がいいです。部屋のテレビが新しいのでyoutube,GYAO、プライムビデオ等のオンライン映...
