more like 4.5 for me, location is good in daylight but after dark is dark. it’s about 900 yen for taxi from Karuizawa station to the guesthouse, not too terrible if you have a lot of luggage.
i didn’t interact much with the staffs here. the lady who helped me with checking in and laundry was kind and nice. i forgot to ask her name, and they had a board introduced staffs but it’s hard to draw connection between the drawing and real life faces.
i had a room with twin beds all for myself. bathroom needs to be reserved but it was easy and not crowded during my stay. the reason i took off 1/2 star was the breakfast. i had breakfast for my last day only, there isn’t any protein (i.e. eggs, or ham or bacon if you do western style breakfast with breads), the soup, i think it was miso, was salty. the local yogurt was the best.
for the price i paid this was a good deal.
ah also there is a top rated soba place that is 5 min walking from the guesthouse, i didn’t try because they closed the day i stayed and opened late...
