Design Hotel Space K — Hotel in Karuizawa

I stayed in Design Hotel Space K during winter. It was zero degree at night and barely 1 degree in the morning. ||Amid the cold winter, these are the pros and cons of the hotel:||Pros:|1. The heater is the number 1 reason why I will recommend this hotel. The heater below the TV is very powerful. The entire room felt warm when its on. This is very important cause I am someone who cannot take the cold winter of zero to 1 degree. Hence it is really nice to have a room that is warm and cozy after the rain. In fact I place my wet shoes and socks near the heater at night (not on it cause will catch fire if over heat) and it dried the next day. |2. The price is the number 2 reason why I will recommend this hotel. It is about 10 mins walk to Prince outlet, and 4 times cheaper (about SGD $80) than the Prince hotel next to the outlet. With the amount you saved, you can do more shopping.|3. The number 3 reason is its condition. The facility is well maintained. The room is clean. It looks new and everything works well. The bed is not too hard and not too soft. The toilet seat is heated and have good functions. The room is not big but not cluttered too. Everything just feel new and nice. Toilet also have a bath tub that is decent size and shower strength is strong with hot water heating well. The hand soap, shower cream, shampoo and conditioner are of acceptable quality for that price too. Corridor is also bright. There is also a washing machine. It is a very good hotel for that price. |4. The TV is bigger than usual. It only show local channels but you can log in to Netflix (just remember to log out after use). |5. Service is good. Hotel is run by a lady who is friendly. On the last day, we just need to deposit the keys in a container for checkout without the need to call for staff. There shows trust in the customer. ||Cons:|1. This hotel seems to be a warehouse converted into hotel. Reason is because the floor at 2nd floor does not feel solid. The toilet felt like an extra mobile toilet inserted into the hotel with plastic like flooring. Hence it is not hotel you will want to choose if you have kids who like to jump up and down. It will disturb the neighbours. It was about 10 mins walk from Karuizawa Prince outlet and hotel. |2. The area outside the hotel is pitch dark as there are no street lights from Prince outlet to hotel which is about 10 mins walk. My friend and I finished shopping at 8pm. We have to switch on your mobile lights when we walk for fear of stepping on a drain. It was a difficult walk as it was zero degree and raining on that night. Imagine the cold, the rain and darkness. Hence if you are travelling alone, I will advise you to finish your shopping before 5pm during winter and buy dinner and head back as nighttime is early during winter. If you are going as a group, I will advise you to take photos when you walk from hotel to Prince outlet. So you can trace the landmark buildings easier when you walk during a pitch dark night. I generally used the buildings as a landmark as there are all 2-3 storey houses.|3. There is 1 restaurant near the hotel but it closes by 7. The main source of food is to buy from Prince outlet which is 10 mins walk away. The hotel provides breakfast at extra cost in a small room, which you can consider if the winter is really cold that morning. If you can bear with the cold, you can consider walking to the outlet with more food options. There is a vending machine but it only sell drinks. Hence it is really important you have some snacks in hotel in case you get hungry in middle of night. Otherwise you have to bear with the hunger as outside is pitch dark and no room service.|4. The toilet is a bit small and ceiling is low. If you are very tall, you may need to bent a bit when you enter to use the shower and wash basin. ||In conclusion, I will strongly recommend this hotel if you travelling in pairs or groups for its price, facilities, service and heater. I had a good stay and everything was good. However, if you are travelling alone, I will still recommend the hotel for the same reasons, but I will advise you to return to hotel before night time as its dangerous to walk alone in...

Design hotel space is a nice gem. It was a cold winter when we were there. The hotel feels like a warehouse converted into 2 levels. The ceiling in the toilet is not tall. One thing i liked about the hotel is the heater. It is strong and makes the room comfortable at 1 degree outside the hotel. It is about 10 mins walk from the outlet shopping mall. One advice is to finish your shopping in the outlet before the sky turns dark. Reason is because there are no lighting (pitch dark) when we were walking along the street to the hotel. Although this hotel isn't close to anything, it was surprisingly comfortable. It's a short 7 - 10 minute walk to the Prince Shopping Plaza and had a couple convenience stores nearby. There are no elevators and no non-smoking room. It was difficult to deal with the smell of smoke in the rooms, but the friendly staff helped carry our heavy suitcases up and down the stairs.
