Hidden gem in Karuizawa! The hostel was very nice to stay at, very cozy space. The house itself is very traditional Japanese style architecture, feels very magical. Shared kitchen was well equipped :) The area have many onsen options! The host was really friendly and answered all of my questions about hiking trails. The chef was lovely and made wonderful food. I think this hostel really made my stay in Karuizawa great!

Lovely older Japanese style house with a kind host. We took a taxi from the station due to timing but there is also good bus service. Walking distance to restaurants/konbini. Bring a headlamp because the streets are a bit dark. We walked around the nearby nature preserve in the morning but you can also see birds in the backyard.

Excellent, atmospheric building, comfy rooms, and very friendly & helpful host/staff - all surrounded by pretty walks & rivers. Stayed in tatami room upstairs with friends - was a really nice experience. The climate in Karuizawa is cooler, so it's a good escape from Tokyo's August heat. Will go again!

Are you tired with hot and humid in Tokyo? If so, you'd better take Shinkansen to Karuizawa. Koya Backpackers is the best choice for budget travelers. It is located close to Hoshino resort, around 10 minutes' walk from Tombo no Yu bus stop. The owner is a mountain guide, and you can ask him how to enjoy trekking in Karuizawa area. You can walk trails to Shiraito waterfall, weather permitting.||This guest house is old Japanese style, tiny but clean rooms make you relax and bring a time to think about old Japanese lifestyle. Shared shower, toilet, kitchen, fridge and washing machine are available. While I stayed, the owner and guests were very friendly, and I enjoyed chatting with them. I will...

Apparently you can only use google maps to find this place but google maps to find this place.|any other navigation will take u somewhere else.||I had a pleasant stay here, the shower had shampoo, conditioner and body soap and hair dryer which i did not expect in a backpacker hostel, there is only one shower luckily it was not too busy so i didn't have to wait for the shower.||There is a curfew at 11pm but apparently the whole city closes down after 10pm so its ok. makes it quiet to sleep at night.||the room was clean, futons were warm. its Japanese style so you will sleep in futons not beds and you have to make them in...

Really enjoyed my stay at Koya Backpackers. Very friebdly host/staff and everything was clean and tidy. It's an old but lovely renovated japanese house. The big table in the common area makes for good social gatherings and i really enjoyed hanging with the other guests there (it was raining heavily so good to cozy down with a cuppa coffee and have a chat). There is a kitchen, laundry facilities, showers, etc. Onsens in walking distance and the nature in the area is just really pretty. In my 2 weeks cycling through japan so far, this area had been my favourite, can very much recommend...
