We hopped off the train into zero degree temperatures and way too many tourists at Kawaguchiko station. We then missed the bus to Narusawa and had to wait 2 hours for the next one. We finally got off the bus at Narusawa with our 25kg luggages and then walked 7-8 minutes to the lodge. At this point we were thinking, what did we get ourselves into, we should have just booked a hotel closer to the station. It was all looking fairly bleak. Then we met our hosts and it was all worth it. The accommodation was nice, we were lucky to be the only guests for our stay so we had the guest area to ourselves and the bathrooms to ourselves. The room was very cosy with tatami flooring and comfortable futons with lots of blankets and a heater. The hosts (husband and wife) are the best part of staying here. They are a lovely couple and made us feel like we had a second family in Japan. The genuinely cared about where we were from and about our welfare and enjoyment while in Japan. They were able recommend and then drop us off at the local (Yurari) onsen which was amazing for relaxation, especially in the cold (we went here 2 nights in a row). They made sure the onsen staff called them after we were done so we could be picked up. On check out they even personally drove us to the station so we didn't have to lug around our luggages, they stopped at a few spots along the way, showing us some of the more interesting things in the area. It was like having a personal tour guide and photographer with us. It was a pleasure to stay here and we will definitely be back. Domo...

At breakfast they chatted some more. Sharing stories and pictures. If I ever make back to Japan I surely want to...
