Large ryokan In Iwamuro onsen. I am learning that if the ryokan is large, the bath is bigger and other amenities areas are larger as well. We stayed on the fifth floor and the view from the room was nice, just a large rice field. (Being winter, no rice is planted. They have 2 large bath both with additional outside bath, and they are quite large. The service was very good all of the staff are pleasant and helpful. They have a nice sized lounge area with free drinks. I used a plan that takes us out to their restaurant out in town, the driver was good and they had no issue for extended stay. I will definitely try this...
   Read moreService was very good. The team from the hotel made us feel welcome from the time we entered and even tried to accommodate us to have an English speaking staff during dinner service. One day when we forgot to stay for dessert the restaurant called the room and even had it delivered to us.
The onsen is nice and cozy but noted the indoor onsen only had hot pools without an option for a cooler pool or cold pool.

   Read moreThe location is good for relaxation as many farms and fields are around the hotel areas. However, it is just 45 mintues drive to the Niigata Town. Their staffs could not speak English, so maybe their target customers are mainly Japanese. Although they do not speak English, they tried hard to use the translator to communicate to the foreign guests.
