I had a great stay at the Richmond Hotel Premier in Sendai in December 2018. I was only able to stay for one night, but it was a treat to myself. ||||The staff were excellent and I had no problems with check-in or check-out. I was able to purchase a box from the hotel in order to have some of my shopping sent directly to my home. The staff were also kind enough to lend me a roll of tape to seal the box as well. The next morning, the front desk clerk assisted me in sending my box by takkyubin (courier) to my home. ||||After check in, I took advantage of the free drinks and ice cream in the lobby. It was nice to be able to sit and relax for a few minutes before heading out to the shops again. ||||My room was very nice. The bed was comfortable and there was a plug in the bedhead. I liked the understated decor and it was very quiet as I was at the end of a hallway.||||I had breakfast in the morning which was apparently included in my room charge. It was underwhelming, as the salad and fruit were prepacked. The pastries and breads were good and also fresh, they were very nice. I was disappointed that the only eggs on offer were hard boiled so I passed on them. That said, having the breakfast at no charge was a rather nice bonus and kept me going until I had a late lunch.||||I was able to leave my bags at the hotel both before check-in and after check-out before I caught my bus to my city, so I was able to do quite a bit of running around the city!||||I often stay at the Richmond Hotel Premier when I am in Sendai as a little treat to myself. It's an affordable luxury for myself and I look forward to...
Read moreA short walk from the train station (shinkansen), escalators available to get to street level. Look for the pink building. Conveniently located to public transportation, lots of restaurants and bars nearby. Don Quijote Mega store is across the street and a shopping/dining arcade very close by. Also a couple of blocks away from the "Sendai Morning Market." Staff spoke some English and were very friendly/welcoming. Breakfast was included and we found it tasty and a great value (cold items such as yogurt/milk, salad, various juice/beverages and hot items including soup du jour x2, freshly baked pastries both savory and sweet varieties and breads). The self-service juice bar and soft cream is available until 11pm. I was suprised to find so many people in the lobby enjoying soft cream near the closing time, but then again great minds think alike. The TV has info about the laundry room status, including machine availability and time remaining on the wash/dry, a very convenient feature. The washing machines have their own laundry detergent so you will not need to bring any of your own. You'll need 100yen coins to pay for the wash/dry and the front desk helped me with changing a bill for coins. Overall a great value, including simple but tasty breakfast and self service juice and soft cream stations, close to public transportation and many restaurants/bars in the area. Highly recommended,...
Read moreA conveniently located, newly built business hotel. Rooms were a good value for the price. Smaller than western hotels, yes, but not overly cramped for two people and several bags in a double room. The room was quiet and the bed was comfy. Included toiletries were plentiful.
Breakfast is included and runs until 9:30. Late check-out is permitted until 2pm, at only 1000¥/hour. Coin-operated laundry is available, with 3 all-in-one wash/dry machines. 500¥ will let you wash and dry 5 days or so worth of clothes in 2 hours.
Most of the check-in/check-out process is done via machines with multiple languages available, and the staff know how to handle the other parts of the process in English.
The coolest thing, though, was the complimentary smartphone. It's just a bargain-bin Android device with all the basics like Google maps, a JR timetable, and a bunch of local info and articles, mostly from TripAdvisor, loaded up on it. But it had unlimited data and even supported local and international calling. It was the perfect way to explore the Sendai area without having to use my own phone's data connection. Every hotel...
