Great accommodation hotel in shirakawago. This hotel was about 30 minutes from shirakawago. Fortunately, the hotel has an 8-seater shuttle van to pickup from the bus terminal and send back to bus terminal after checkout.
Pickup from bus terminal to hotel start from 3:10pm. You can find the bus schedule in the noticeboard in the bus terminal. The driver was very polite and kind. The drive took about 5 minutes.
Upon arrival, we were requested to take off our shoes and put in a locker free of charge. A hotel staff cleaned the wheel of our luggage bags. The reception processed our check-in and gave us a map & info of the hotel. We were advised to loan a yukata free of charge on the second floor besides of the reception.
The room was spacious and comfortable. A japanese pyjamas were inside the room. The scenery was so fairytale. All toiletries were self collected near the lobby.
We immediately took bath and changed to our onsen clothes and go to onsen. Besides the usual male and female onsen, there were 2 private onsen. Each private onsen could be locked, and each time only can access of maximum 30 minutes. The onsen was located indoor but with low, wide, and open window to enjoy the calm and fairytale snowing scene.
After onsen, we took our dinner. Traditional shirakawago dinner set. Delicious and informative. 4 stars
On and off the hotel gave us surprises everywhere.
Please note that hotel collected bath tax 150 yen per person regardless of you use the onsen or not.
Upon checkout, the shuttle van sent us back to bus terminal. 5...
Read moreCould not recommend this place less. Stay away. They made the last two nights of our honeymoon completely unbearable after an incredible trip everywhere else we stayed for 2.5 weeks in Japan.
Here is a list of things that ruined our stay:
They charge $65 (8800 yen) for an uncancellable dinner that will not fill you up. It is maybe half a meal if you eat every bite. The same goes for breakfast, albeit only $20.
No shuttle was available from the hotel to the historic village of shirakawa-go. The walk is nearly 2 miles. There was one shuttle back to the hotel, although you have to wait in the snow and freezing cold in an uncovered parking lot for an unspecified amount of time. When our shuttle finally arrived, my fiancé asked if she could ride back to the hotel, grab some quick items from her luggage, and ride back (the driver mentioned he was driving back anyway). Not only did the driver completely deny the request, but actually yelled at her before stuffing his hand in her face, physically pushing her away, and stomping back to his seat.
When we originally got off the bus after arriving to town, we had to carry our luggage all the way to the hotel or wait 1 hr and 15 min in a snowy parking lot for a shuttle. We did the previous after a long day of travel and being in buses because we just wanted to end our travel and sit down to relax.
When we tried to cancel our dinner for 5:30pm at 9am, we were told we could cancel our reservation, but still had to pay 8800 yen per person. We asked if any of the new arrivals could fill our spot, and we’re just ignored.
We originally booked a room with a queen sized bed, but arrived (on our honeymoon!) to find two twin sized beds.
PLEASE do yourself a favor and avoid this hotel. The staff are rude, unhelpful at best, and will certainly make you feel...
Read moreWe travelled to Shirakawa-go by bus from Kanazawa departing around 9am. We just took an overnight bag which was a great decision. Easy comfortable trip about 1 hour. Arrived at bus terminal (on edge of the historic village) where you can store luggage but is often full. |The only issue is that this hotel is about 30 min walk from bus terminal. The hotel bus schedule doesn’t coincide with when the Kanazawa bus arrives and departs so highly recommend you pack light so you don’t have to drop bags at hotel and go back to village. We decided to do the 2km snow walk and they kindly dropped us back into town after we dropped bags at the hotel. There is only 1 taxi in town so don’t rely on this. ||We spent a few hours in the village. The hotel bus leaves the main bus terminal around 3pm and every half hour. |I would recommend to get back to hotel from the village on the 3pm bus. Then you can enjoy the amazing onsen (best I have been to) at the hotel before dinner at 530pm. Dinner was amazing, reasonably priced about ¥8,000 pp. Other dinner options in the town are limited and difficult to get to at night. |Breakfast also fabulous. Then we checked out and took hotel bus back into town. Luckily we got a storage locker at bus terminal and then explored village again. Get in early for lunch as it gets quite busy. We went to Irori which is highly recommended. Efficient, well priced, diverse menu and English speaking staff. They also own the souvenir shop next door. |We then caught the 310pm bus back to Kanazawa.|So in summary, this town is really best as a 1 day/overnight trip from Kanazawa. just pack very light so you have the flexibility to carry your backpack around the village and not rely on storage lockers or dropping bags at this hotel as it’s not easy to get to unless you use their...
