This little hostel gets high reviews for attention to detail, cleanliness and professional service. Note: This is a hostel and although the rooms are separate, you should not expect the privacy of a hotel. What makes the Shirakawago Inn so special is the attention and professionalism of the owner and staff, who were born and raised in Shirakawago. The Inn is an easy and beautiful 20 minute walk from the bus station. The Inn provides shuttle service to and from the bus stop at 8:30 am and at 5:30 pm (this service is free, just call the Inn to arrange). Upon check in we were kindly greeted and the process was simple and efficient. The entire space is immaculate yet simple. The design of the common space is modern and warm. Although there is no proper kitchen, there is a refrigerator, toaster, microwave, hot water, coffee, tea, brewed coffee in the morning, dish ware and utensils. All the appliances are top-quality and there are instant noodles, snacks and water available for purchase. There is bar seating with a gorgeous, picture-perfect view of the mountains. There is also a large table. The bedrooms are upstairs and there are single and double rooms. Each room has a push-button lock and sliding door. The rooms are equipped with a regular bed, stand and small television. There is a cloths hanger outside each room to hang jackets and any other articles of clothing. I did ask the owner to consider installing hooks or another hanging system inside the room for convenience, and he was receptive. Because the rooms are close together, there can be some noise, but at 10 pm is quiet time and we had a comfortable sleep. The bathrooms and showers are downstairs; keep this in mind if you require late night bathroom trips. Again, all the facilities are very modern and super clean. We really enjoyed our stay at the Shirakawago Inn and appreciated the attention to detail, professionalism and kindness of the owner. I would definitely recommend this hostel. Lastly, there are nice bicycles to rent and other adventures...
Read moreWe were looking for a nice affordable option in shirakawa go so that we could maximize our day trip to the old town. The INN gave us an affordable place to stay with adequate amenities, a great view, and the most welcoming host so far.
We left our luggage at the shirakawa go bus station so that we could spend all afternoon in the town. After a wonderful visit to the town we grabbed our luggage (be careful, the storage isonly open till 5), and walked the 20 minutes to the INN. While its not the smoothest route, it is easy to find.
We were greeted by the happiest and most welcoming host of our stays so far, who provided all the info needed, and help to decide on a restaurant.
After settling into the rooms we made way to a restaurant. There is no curvey on entering the inn, so we could go out without care.
When back in the inn, there is some coffee, tea, and options to get. Chips, water and cup noodles can be purchased at a low price, a great addition if you want a late night snack.
The rooms were small, but adequate. the toilets, showers and washing room are shared, but clean. It could get a bit busy when all rooms are booked, but only 2 out of 5 rooms were occupied when we stayed so no problems for us
