My main problem with this place is the location on a somewhat steep hill. It's pretty annoying having to go up and down a hill every time you go out. Oh, and the rooms have a smell to them...it's not a bad smell, I'm not sure what it is. After two days I didn't notice it anymore.
However, maybe this was just because this was during the coronavirus epidemic, but I paid 2,500 yen a night to have a 3-person Japanese-style room with tatami mats and air conditioning all to myself, which was kind of a steal. You're more or less living a house (with a lock for your own door, the front door remaining unlocked) and it's quite comfy. The location is right beside the old town which is nice. The owner is friendly and can be helpful, but he's not around all the time.
Shower and toilets are good and overall the place is very clean. Washer available (300 yen at time of writing) but no dryer (you can hang stuff outside). Kitchen didn't look great but I never planned...

The shared spaces were in good condition and well-equipped. The rooms however get very cold at night. We asked for an extra blanket when it got too cold, but unfortunately didn't receive an answer from the owner.
The location is great, right above the famous Takayama old town. It's about 20 minutes by foot from the bus station. The local buses are about 7 minutes walking from here.
