I never write reviews but this place hits too close to home for me.
In the heart of Takayama, there’s a place that brings me back to the best parts of home, even when I’m thousands of miles away. Center Four isn’t just about burgers; it’s about comfort, nostalgia, and a taste that stays with you long after the last bite. As someone who’s lived in the States and knows a good burger, I can say with all honesty that this is the best one I’ve had in Japan.
When I walk into Center Four, I’m greeted by a familiar warmth—rustic wooden tables, vintage American signs, and the kind of cozy, dim lighting that makes you feel like you’ve found a hidden gem on a backroad diner somewhere deep in the States. The owner, who spent time in America, has captured that spirit perfectly.
And then there’s the burger itself. It’s so good, I have to close my eyes sometimes, just to deprive my other senses and savor the flavor fully. Each bite takes me back to summer barbecues and long, winding road trips, the taste of something familiar and comforting. It’s American at heart, yet infused with the subtle, heartfelt touches of Japanese hospitality.
If you need a break from sushi and ramen, or just want to experience a burger that truly hits home, Center Four is where you’ll find it. It’s a little taste of Americana in Takayama, and worth every mile you travel...
Read moreI really don’t love leaving subpar reviews but this seems like an easy fix. I ordered the hida beef burger and it was overcooked. It destroyed the incredible flavor of the beef. Please, please cook these burgers closer to medium rare or ask each person how they would like it cooked. If the burger was cooked closer to rare or medium rare, I think it would have been absolutely incredible and maaayyyybbeee worth the price. But based off the burger I had, it was absolutely not worth the price and I wish I tried hida beef elsewhere first. Cause the other experiences of the beef that I’ve had have been incredible. Let the beef stand on its own and don’t cook it so much!
Everything else at the restaurant is solid. If you want western/classic Americana, this is your spot. Fries were solid. I imagine everything else does the job too. Place is nice and cozy, and they were playing Johnny Cash’s greatest hits. Which was a nice respite and reminder of home after months of travel.
But don’t butcher these poor cow burgers. They’ve already been...
Read moreThe shop looked amazing! Really atmospheric restaurant and excellent staff as they tend to have in Japan. We took the hida beef burger and double cheese burger (3990yen). Hida patty had slightly better and more meaty taste compared to normal patty, fries had good consistency and weren't too salty nor saltless. Thing with hamburgers is that they are pretty much like hotwings. Tastes almost the same after certain quality threshold where ever you go. In other words, hamburgers are affect more by deminishin return, than some other foods. The burger tasted great, it was a good burger by all means but the hida beef patty didn't add much. If you are talented home bbq chef, you can create similar tasting burgers in home environment. Good place if you crave for burgers.
After tasting so many exquisite burgers, I have to conclude that non of them have tasted miles better compared to proper homemade burger, some times haven't even surpassed the homemade. I'm still saving the 5th star for a burger that...
