Without a doubt, this is a fairly high-quality and modern hostel at a very reasonable price. My night cost just $3, thanks to a $15 discount coupon from Booking(dot)com. Convenient location. Laundry facilities are available (700 yen for washing and drying, which is no more expensive than regular laundromats). Clean. A comfortable common area for relaxing.
But there are things I didn't like.
First, there's no clear rule about quiet hours. The hostel owners shouldn't just recommend keeping quiet after 10 p.m.; it should be a mandatory and strict rule, as people often ignore recommendations, and the night I stayed, someone was making noise well into the night.
Second, the Wi-Fi is quite slow and often cuts out in the room. Eventually, I just turned it off and used mobile data.
Third, the top bunks aren't isolated like the bottom ones, so if someone turns on their light, it shines into your "capsule." This was bothersome since my roommates had their lights on until 2 a.m.
Fourth, the breakfast is a joke, to be honest. Bread, jam, butter. Boiled eggs. Cheese. Tea. That’s it. You can't even call it breakfast, as all that food looks poor and of low quality.
Not the best hostel l've stayed in, but if you're not too particular about quiet and comfort, it'll do. I would've preferred sleeping in a tent somewhere in a park, as in a tent, I'm alone in the quiet and calm, without anyone turning on lights at 2 a.m. or deciding to shower...
Read moreWe have happened to stay here for ten days as my friend needed to recover from an injured foot. We felt like at home ; the facilities are great ; some of the rooms have a beautiful views of the hill. The lounge is cozy and the kitchen very useful. There is a sento opposite of the guest house. But the best was definitely the staff. We got to know them a little and they have been super welcoming. Some of them have spent time outside Japan and the communication took a whole different level. They were able to give valuable cultural insights which are otherwise difficult to reach due to the reserved personality of Japanese folks. I recommend to spend time with them, you'll deepen your experience.
It's also the most convenient place for those doing the Henro. Easy to reach from Osaka (via the cheap ferry). 50m away is the only sim card shop in town. Also, its conveniently located between temple 17 and 18 and if you have taken too much stuff with you, you can leave it at the guest house!
Thanks for everything Hamachan, Naoki, Mori, Akai, Takae, Kayo, Yuka, Karen and of course Naosan...
Read moreI'm cycling around Shikoku and I make sure to book places with a washing machine on site because I travel light. Frankly, I was rather disappointed that there was no washing machine and had to cut short my visit with friends to make time to wash my clothes. And the laundromat's location was not very nice for a woman travelling solo with only light clothes as a change. The room was in a bad state and the toilet flushed so loud! Stains on the carpet, the bathroom sink was broken, the bath was rusty, and you could hear everything along the hallway and the next door. The people were nice enough and the location is convenient, but seeing how much I've paid for previous hostels (Cyclo-no-Ie in Imabari and ADLIV in Mima, for example) with far better cleanliness and service, this 5000 yen/night felt like a rip-off to me. Cannot recommend as is, sadly. I would have done better to stay at Toyoko Inn, frankly. I hope this place can renovate and...
