I had spent a few nights here and I must say that I really enjoyed my stay here. It has been my first time in a capsule hotel and it is a 2-5 minutes walk from Ogikubo station on the Chuo Line. If I remember correctly, the Chuo line (rapid) takes approx. 12 minutes to get to Shinjuku and going the other way is only three stops to Mitaka station where the Ghibli museum is (please not advanced bookings for the museum are required).
PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS A MALE BOOKING ONLY HOTEL AND THAT TATOOS ARE ALLOWED IN THE PREMISES.
But onto the review of the hotel itself. As you enter please take your shoes off and deposit them into the shoe lockers! You are welcomed by the friendly and extemely helpful staff, some of which can speak partially-conversational english. You are given a wristband/ locker key for the access to the hotel.
The main facilities are: A fairly narrow locker for your coats, jackets and bags, etc. (Any suitcases can be stored free of charge near the reception, just ask a member of staff); Free towels and sleeping pyjamas; Artificial onsen and steam room, there are no additional charges for these facilities; sink/ washing stations, these have all you need, toothbrushes, skin moisturisers, hairdryers, shaving razors and even hair styling products (free of charge); clothes washing facilities, you must ask the reception before using these, I am not sure whether charges apply for these, but know that they are there for customer usage; Kitchen/ bar, drinks, food, mangas and free katsu curry breakfast!
The capsule bed review: These beds are a lot bigger and comfortable than expected and the capsules are fairly spacious. Each capsule floor has free wi-fi with fairly decent reception/ speed, free tv with usb input, a free bottle of mineral water, USB outlet (3 inputs enabled), air conditioning, built in wake-up alarm system. Please note that the walls are fairly thin and it possible that you can hear other people snoring, but luckily the hotel supplies ear plugs for this reason!
Overall, for booking on the day of arrival at a price of 4,980 yen (£32.35 - early 2018), I thought this was a great experience and I would recommend for...
Read moreThis was my first stay in a Tokyo capsule hotel--I have stayed at one in Taipei before, but that one had quite a few issues that weren't present in Tokyo. The Japanese invented the capsule hotel, of course, and they have ironed out quite a few of the issues.||||This capsule hotel is tattoo-friendly and many of the staff speak decent English. There were a few foreign guests, but the overwhelming majority of guests at the hotel are Japanese. The hotel was kept clean, even at the busiest of times, and I really enjoyed my stay. The in-capsule tablets allowed me to access Netflix on the 40" TV in the theater capsules, which was great! ||||The amount of toiletries you have access to is incredible. Coming back to the sento bath and steam room every night was a real pleasure and really helped me sleep. A few of the guests can be noisy and inconsiderate, so the earplugs in the capsules are a real plus. Despite the noise, I slept very well indeed. ||||There are lots of places to eat around the hotel and the staff can give you recommendations too. There's a supermarket one street over if you want to buy food and snacks to take home. I took home several bottles of sake since they can be imported into Hong Kong tax-free. ||||All in all, an excellent stay and I'd gladly stay there again. I enjoyed my stay at the hotel and enjoyed the sake and shochu available at the bar. On my first night, I asked for a few of the accompanying dishes with my sake and since it was already late, I got them gratis and was told to enjoy my stay! The little dishes were lovely.||||Note that the hotel does get busy and if you want one of the fancy special pillows, get one early. The same goes for breakfast; one morning I got up there half an hour before breakfast was over and literally had to scrape the pot for leftover curry. All of the hardboiled eggs were gone too. I wake up with low blood sugar, so I need to eat before I get moving or I'm uncomfortable until I get food in my belly. I had to make do with a few teaspoons of curry, white rice, miso and some Calpis before I set off for...
