The Haneda Excel Hotel at Terminal 2 at Hakeda Airport. A late night but not an early start meant, we needed a hotel that was quick and convenient from the Haneda International Airport. The travel agent booked a double bed room which I hear is quite hard to find in Japan generally. Navigating your way from the International Airport isn’t too hard if you arrive before midnight. Walk out of Customs/Quarantine and turn right, head up one level to where there are buses. Get on the free shuttle bus to Terminal 2 (Bus No. 0) and it’ll take around 10 minutes. When you arrive, take the escalator up one level and the Hotel is at the far end of the Terminal. If however, you arrive after midnight as my friend did, you’ll need to catch a taxi from International to Terminal 2. Have cash handy. I was greeted at the reception of the Hotel at 10pm with the opening of the door, then greeted by a guest services employee who tried to check me in by scanning my passport (which didn’t work) and then using a name (which didn’t work). She politely directed me to Reservations who quickly sorted it out and within a few minutes, the porter had escorted me to the room. For Japan standards, it’s quite spacious with a large bed that I’d consider to be a queen size at least. The bedding consisted of a doona which was the perfect layer for the night. The room was warm, with the temperature set at 24 degrees. Having just come from an Australian summer, I was in need of cooling down so reset it to 19 which made for a comfortable night of sleep. The room is complete with a wardrobe for luggage storage, a small space with bar fridge but nothing inside) and includes complementary water bottles. The bathroom is gorgeous, with everything you need provided including hair dryer, the most beautiful fragrant shampoo, conditioner and body wash plus the usual toothbrush, ear buds etc. etc. The toilet itself was something straight out of NASA and took me by surprise when I sat on it that it was heated. So many other controls on them that was entertaining working out what they were. The tv had many channels but was easy to operate with comprehensive instructions on laminated sheets with a number of languages to help you navigate how to use it. The room was quiet and could barely hear anyone else in adjacent rooms. Upon checkout, we paid the extra taxes of $200YEN (paid by cash) followed by smiling staff who were gracious for our patronage. Access to public transport is easy from this hotel. We decided to eat breakfast at the Flyers Table which is the adjacent restaurant. A review for this has been...
Read moreLarge airport hotel located at terminal 2, ANA terminal. The hotel is at one end of the main departures floor. They seem to have introduced an automated booking that needed a member of staff to guide you through it, even though the instructions were available in English. Rooms are not large but plenty big enough for one or two nights when all you want to do is sleep. Best to only have small cases or carry on bags in the room. We had packed for a couple of nights into carry on bags so we're able to get the hotel to look after our large cases and let us have more room in the room. The restaurant in the hotel is ok for a drink. We didn't eat anything other than an ice cream sundae so can't comment on the food. There are a large number of restaurants in the middle of the terminal and we ate in one of these. We arrived at Terminal 3 and took the free shuttle bus. It was a pain getting large luggage on and off. There are frequent trains between the Terminals that you need to pay for but access is all by lift (elevator) and the cost is minimal. They do accept Google Pay at the train entrance. They also accept IC Cards which are a must if you are going to use the subway and trains in Tokyo as well as public transportation in many other Japanese cities. We used ours in Nagasaki on the buses.
As a very positive eco-friendly thing this hotel by default does NOT clean your room every day so does not change the towels etc. You have to request to have the room cleaned. This does mean you do not get coffee or water replaced but they were happy to provide more...
Read moreI was travelling from Sydney to London via Tokyo and transiting thru Haneda for 11 hours so pre-purchased this hotel essentially so I could have a shower and comfortable sleep before the 14-hour flight from Tokyo to London. You have to pass thru immigration, which is very easy as Japanese customs are very welcoming. The great part though is that you do not need to leave the terminal. The hotel is located at the very end of Terminal 2 and check in process is simple. Note even though you have prepaid the room, you still need to pay extra taxes directly to the hotel although its only 200Y (a lot of paperwork essentially to collect A$2.00). The room is small but very comfortable. My flight from Sydney was late and as such I did not get to the hotel until 11:00pm, by which the Restuarant and room service was closed. At that time there is nothing else open in the airport. Fortunately, I had eaten on the plane but there are vending machines in the hotel foyer. Following morning checkout was efficient and customs had just opened so there were no queues to get back thru. ANA lounge was great for breakfast. I had booked my luggage all the way thru to London so did not need to worry about baggage - just take a change of clothes in your...
