Stayed there for two weeks and would definitely like to stay there again on my next visit.
First of all, the hotel is very conveniently located, with easy and fast train connections to all important places in Tokyo. The Akado station is just about three minutes away on foot.
Shim-Mikawajima station with a convenient and fast access to the Narita airport is about 15 minutes away on foot.
I had a JR pass, so had to (most frequently) use the JR train network, but its Tabata station is too only about 15 minutes away on foot, through a nice quiet neighborhood.
From there, the Tokyo station, Ueno, Shinjuku, Shibuya, Ginza and other famous districts can be reached very rapidly.
Secondly, the hotel offers a very good value for the price: Instead of, say, a "capsule hotel", you live in a proper room, in which you can stand up, sit properly, open a window to get some fresh air, empty you trash into a garbage-bin, allocate your bags, hang your clothes, regulate room temperature with an air conditioner, not be subject to excessive noise from other guests.
Toilets and bathrooms are shared, but very well maintained, warm (not just the air or water, but also the toilet seats!) and done with the latest advances of technology.
Toilets are very clean - but even so, special slippers are provided to be used just in toilets!
You can save some room in your luggage by taking only the necessary clothes and washing them on site in specially provided washing machines.
And you can also cut costs on restaurant dining by using the kitchen and the refrigerator in it.
And most of all, the hosts are just amazing! Tom and Kimiko treated me as a family member - and I could really feel their sincerity, care, and kindheartedness. They always happily welcomed me after a day of travels, provided excellent advise as to my travel plans, introduced me to previously unknown tasty food, provided interesting insights into the Japanese culture.
In those two week we truly became friends. It was really, really sad to leave them...
And I am writing this review with a sincere gratitude to them for the excellent care they took of me during my stay there.
I am looking forward to see them...
Read moreWhat a wonderful experience! The rooms were very simple but comfortable (just a mattress on the floor and a small rack to hang clothes, along with an air conditioner). There was a line of shared sinks in the hallway (complete with hair dryer), a community toilet room, and individual shower rooms in the hallways. While this may sound like meager accomodations, the hosts and camaraderie of the other guests more than made up for what you might think you would miss. There was a shared common room ("living room"), small dining area, and small kitchen that we were able to make use of, along with the other guests. What fun to brush your teeth next to a new friend from Spain, or sip coffee and swap travel advice with someone from the Czech Republic! There were plenty of towels, washcloths, dishes, etc. available for our use, and our bedding was washed and changed every couple of days. A patio with table and chairs, along with a small burner where our group made curry one night, was just outside. There were a couple of washing machines available for our use -- although we had to hang our clothes out to dry, four floors up a winding staircase, on the rooftop. No matter! There was a "dumb waiter" elevator to send the clothes up or down, and the view from the top was spectacular! (Guests frequently made use of this extra outside space to just "hang out" and enjoy the fresh air.) What made our stay special, though, was the hosts! We were clearly guests in their home, and they made us feel so welcome. One day my husband and I had a late start and needed to catch up with the rest of our group. The owner generously and graciously loaded us up in his van, along with my husband's wheelchair, and drove us to the best train station to reach them sooner. It was that "above and beyond" service, always kind and gracious, that won our hearts. More than that; our friendship and loyalty! Side notes: Our family of 4, including two teen boys, was traveling with a larger "class" group. We were able to easily take short walks either to the train station or to local grocery stores, restaurants, or...
Read moreI’ve been at this guesthouse in 2015. I know; it’s been a while, but I never had the chance to write a review. As if it was yesterday, I remember how much I loved it being there. Back then it looked really different, looks like they renovated it! Still know how lovely I’ve been greeted by the owner, I think Kimi was her name? Both owners were so lovely and they speak English so well! At this time I’ve been 18 and it was my very first trip ever, first time traveling alone and I couldn’t have had chosen a better place! I felt very well cared and I really miss going to the bathing house with her... they even cooked and let me eat with them, I was so thankful. The room was tiny but perfect for me, because I don’t need more space. They had WiFi on every floor and a terrace with a beautiful view. Also, there are a lot of shops and convenient stores nearby (i.e. seven eleven 😍). I stayed for a week and it was my best experience ever. The day I had to leave, I was heading to the wrong airport by accident... and was heading back to the hostel, crying so heavy... they were comforting me and taking care of me, telling it would be ok to stay one more night and that i shouldn’t be worried about it. Of course they had a good laugh, I couldn’t believe it myself how stupid I was 😂 Nevertheless, I really miss them and I hope that I can see them again one day! If I ever get a date when they’re not booked out haha ~
Thank you so much for letting me stay at your hostel, hope to see...
