I came to Yamagata city by bus and very conveniently, the bus stopped right outside the hotel rather than over by the station. I was able to take my big suitcase to the hotel and leave it until I could check in. ||||The hotel is very close to the Yamagata Train station and is on the busier side of the station. There is a 7-11 on the ground floor of the building and you can enter the store from the Hotel's ground area. The front lobby is on the third floor, which is not uncommon for many Japanese hotels.||||The staff spoke some English which made things convenient for me. I paid and eventually checked out using a machine in the lobby which has multi-languages available.||||The room was lovely. There was a double bed and a huge TV. Unusually, the TV didn't have Video on Demand, but it did have several streaming services connected to it. If you have your own account for those services, you can sign in on the TV. Unfortunately, I don't have any of the services, so was unable to use that function.||||I loved the little seat in the corner of the room and used it in the evening to watch something on my phone and do some craftwork at the same time.||||The bathroom was a treat. It was NOT a unit bath. The toilet was a very high-tech washlet type. The sink was free-standing with great amenities (some available in the lobby). The bath/shower room was amazing. The bath was a lovely freestanding tub and the room had both a hand-held shower and a rain shower available. The rain shower was brilliant! The amenities in the shower were lovely too. The Bathroom/shower was separated from the sink and toilet by a glass door/window.||||Unfortunately, I didn't have breakfast and I only had one night there, but I can't wait until I can return and spend more time...
Read moreThe reserved delux double was so cramped that we paid for an upgrade to a moderated twin which was a very pleasant room. However, the upgrade price was more than double the difference in price between the two rooms as shown on their own website.|The breakfast was a different matter. You have to select either a ‘western’ or ‘japanese’ breakfast at checkin. You are then brought a tray of the appropriate type - no one asks if you have any allergies or food dislikes. Our tray consisted of half a small teacup of corn soup, a bowl of congealed beef stew, a small salad with cucumber (I am allergic to cucumber) a large plate with a small spoon of half cooked scrambled egg on a lettuce leaf accompanied by a sausage and three tiny squares of very fatty bacon. This was finished off by two slices of bread and butter (no jam - reluctantly given when asked) and a single grape and slice of apple. I know fruit if expensive in Japan, but no other hotel has been so mean with the fruit! Coffee and fruit juice were the only items you could help yourself to apart from a few Japanese items including the very common raw egg!|Reception confirmed there was no possibility of altering this setup or making any changes. Although it says that if you are in a hurry you can exchange your breakfast voucher fo a gift worth 2000yen you are not able to cash in the vouchers and there was no sign of what the gifts might be. For us this is 16000yen wasted as we cannot face four more days of this poor breakfast.|This is our fourth visit to Japan and we have never come across such a poor, inflexible breakfast especially from a supposedly...
Read moreThe hotel suite was clean and guest-friendly. Amenities were very adequate. Its location was conveniently near the bullet train station. Breakfast at the restaurant was tasty and pleasant. We decided to try the Yamagata Wagyu dinner discount, specially promoted for hotel guests. The restaurant staff were informed in advance that we were a hotel guest with a reservation. The check did not reflect the hotel guest discount when we informed them. They apologized for the oversight and yet they refused to make the adjustments. Complained to the hotel front desk and was told that there was nothing they could do because the restaurant was a separate entity. False advertisement and we got scammed and no accountability by the hotel.|Btw, we ordered ribeye steak (300g) at 19000 Yen and were told we would be charged extra for a droplet of sauce refill. My wife's steak was 150g and I was served the same amount of sauce as hers. The logic is, that a bigger steak requires more sauce than the smaller ones. Anyway, the waiter said I could have all the water refills I wanted because there was no extra charge. ....a middle-aged comedian. |On the bright side, the Kawase Hasui's Art Exhibition was great and the 7/11 convenience store next to the hotel was...
