They have beautiful rice fields, but the service quality needs improvement.
We booked a Superior room on Agoda. When we arrived, we thought we would be greeted with a welcome drink, but there was nothing. Contrary to our expectations, all Superior rooms have a view of a small pond and a busy road next to it, which is very noisy and dusty. In addition, the facilities in the room are not so special that you have to pay a high price compared to other places to stay there. So we decided to change to a Deluxe Villa, which has a view of the fields and is quieter.
My unpleasant feelings started from this moment. A young male staff at the reception told me that I would have to pay an additional $47 if I upgraded my room. I checked the price on Agoda and the price difference was only $41, I suggested to him to charge the difference as on Agoda and he contacted his manager. Then a girl came out, I think it was his superior. I thought she would come up with a smart solution, but no, she asked me to pay an additional $48.20 for the upgrade. There was a lack of communication between her and the front desk. I didn't want to waste any more of my vacation time, so I agreed to her request. I asked her if I could pay it at check-out because I left my wallet in the room, she refused and asked me to pay right away to get the room :)). Another stupid and inappropriate request for a resort. I was really uncomfortable and decided not to upgrade because of her inflexible attitude (she didn't seem to care about my discomfort).
Here's what was really horrible: We went to our room for a nap after the terrible experience with the manager. We were woken up by strange noises on the ceiling (apart from the traffic outside), it was the sound of rats running around on the ceiling (I attached the video), I thought I was in a warehouse and not a famous resort. I went to check and found out that they had put a rat trap behind the secret door in the bathroom, so they knew in advance that there were rats in the room but still let us stay in that room. I can't imagine how they make money.
I called the hotel staff & asked to change the room immediately, he quickly helped me change to another room next to it. Also, when I arrived, some areas seemed to be under repair. The roofs of the Deluxe apartments were also damaged and not beautiful.
For me, this place has nothing of value except their rice fields and beautiful pictures.
Recommendation: You should choose a mountain view room (Deluxe or Junior Villa), the price is quite high but it is the best choice if you want to have beautiful pictures and quiet space. You absolutely should not choose a Superior room because of the bad view and noise, with the same price you can completely choose many other better hotels. If you want to go to this resort to take pictures with the rice fields, you should book lunch or dinner here for 20$/set.
Suggestions for the resort:The owner of the resort should retrain the receptionist/manager. In my case, the girl should have prioritized the comfort of the guests by helping us change to a Deluxe room immediately, then they could have collected the money at the room or asked us to go to the reception to pay the room upgrade fee when we went out in the afternoon. They missed the opportunity to make money & made our experience worse. Also, they need to check the animal control & mice in the room. Improve the landscape of the Superior rooms to be more beautiful, better soundproofing.
1 star for the beautiful field + 1 star for the staff who helped me change to another room = 2 stars.
I really hope they will improve their service in the future, and I will still recommend this resort...

We made reservation here in Viengtara Vang Vieng Resort at very last minute, and luckily they had one room available which did not hesitate me to ask them to lock that unit for me via facebook messenger. I completely had no idea how to get the province, though i knew I could get the speed train to there but it was too late to catch the last train to Vang Vieng and didn’t get the tickets in advance. So we asked a random hotel staff that we didn’t even stay there for advise, and thankfully they could get us there by Bus in which took around 2 hours there. . Motorway was well-built with small numbers of vehicles, thus it was a smooth flow ride there. Once we got to VV., got confused a little and i had to double check with the driver like “Are we arrived? We got off here?”. Yes we got out here with empty sandy dusty land, and decided to open up Google Map and navigate by foot. To get to our beautiful resort here, we could walk from the drop-off station roughly around 15-20 mins max. . Once we arrived the entrance, there was a lady welcomed us and walked us in the lobby with its astonishing view of rice field and mountains covered at the back. Water in a flavour of lemon grass as well as cold wet towel served right at the perfect time of need. We had to choose options for breakfast since we do the check-in, from traditional Laotian breakfast to American one. And of course why not picking the local one since we wanted to absorb as much of it. . Walking from lobby to our room on its classy bridge surrounded with pure nature felt surreal, the clock stopped ticking and the earth stopped spinning itself. Completely zero noise pollution, still jaw-dropping state of mind. Clear blue sky, sunsetting, light exposure fading, nice temperature, birds and insects singing, hot air balloon above the sky, paragliding, happy hours at resort that offered free flow of beverages. With these external elements mentioned forming up at the same time, it was just superb experience to be here. . Words cannot describe all, not even close. Everything happened for a reason, and we happened to spend our romantic time here in Viengtara Resort. Room itself was fairly good, loved the drip coffee set provided, balcony and views were winning point. If you happen to visit Vang Vieng in Laos, I would highly recommend this resort to you. You’ll love this and won’t forget the time here. . . . . .

However, the view shown in photos online is not the view for all rooms, but only for the villas, so book with care! The superior rooms face a small dirty pond and a road with lots of motorcycles and traffic. The balcony was unusable for me because of this.
Unfortunately, this place is not up to the standards of a resort at all. The bed in my room had stained sheets and a stained comforter and the receptionist was reluctant to help change them when I pointed them out. He finally did when I asked for a discount if they couldn’t be changed, but even then he only changed the fitted sheet and not the comforter.
This wasn’t even close to the worst of it. Overnight I heard scrabbling noises on the hardwood floor and turned on the light to find a mouse scurrying away. I’m extremely scared of mice and even if I wasn’t, this is unacceptable for any hotel, forget about an extremely expensive one calling itself a resort. I also heard more scurrying noises overhead throughout the night despite having earplugs in, which made it hard to sleep. A previous review mentioned hearing rats on the ceiling of her room and then checking the bathroom cupboard and finding a rat trap. So gross.
In the morning I asked to move rooms and they offered to move me to another room in the same building or to two other hotels. Both hotel options were similarly expensive but with poor reviews, so I asked for a refund. To their credit, they agreed to process a refund for two nights, but said it would take 3 weeks to a month. The refund did eventually get processed thankfully.
They also don’t have free tuk tuk service as it states on Google maps, it costs $5 USD per ride, which is also extremely overpriced as well. I was able to take a car into town for 40k kip (~$2). They are far enough from town (15 minute walk) that I ended up taking a car...
