Hotel de l' Esplanade — Hotel in Remich

Last here 20 years ago and am not usually very fussy but Having just stayed there with my family 2 adults 2 children I felt that being English some staff looked down on us as a bit of a nuisance rather than a guest didn’t have much patience to explain the menus because of language barrier Remich is a beautiful place but in hotel no air con so should have had fans in the rooms if they put in ceiling it would add character to the hotel could also do with tv and coffee facilities and fridge tv was useless even for news and with the money we paid should have had a river view room felt they just put us out of way on purpose we did not get our free drink on arrival and have to be quick to get a parking space for free. breakfast was very basic and no croissants at all and milk was always warm for cereal yuk no draught beer got the feeling they didn’t want us to have the 3 course 20 Euro’s dinner ||But on plus side the Hotel is very nice the breakfast waitress also very nice and friendly as was the housemaid and young man behind the bar room was very clean everyday Luxembourg and Remich is a lovely little secret hidden away but some staff can appear rude or can’t be bothered with you in other places eating and drinking as well. Germany lovely to explore over the bridge and were very friendly people. a must do is the tree tops and Sarburg I have worked in catering and hotels and cruise ships around the world most my life still do so know what to expect from hospitality but overall Definetely worth a visit just Hotel d Esplanade need to get their act together but 3 of the staff were very good. Even hotel owner couldn’t be bothered to say hello to guests just sat their looking miserable all the time and one more bad thing smoking still allowed everywhere but we love Remich ||Lewis...

In the past we had stopped of here for coffee and excellent strudel so it seemed a good idea for an overnight stay. The location is amazing with good views of the Mosel. We arrived on a very sunny afternoon when all the world wanted to be by the river in Remich so parking was very difficult and we had to park a long way from the hotel. Obviously not much the hotel can do about that but maybe warning guests that parking can be difficult sometimes. Reception was friendly and efficient and the room had a good view of the river as well as access to a shared balcony (unfortunately used for smoking by some guests). Back to the sunny afternoon and some aircon or a fan would have been appreciated. We decided to eat in the restaurant and found the menu a bit expensive and found the portions unnecessarily large, Too much food seems an odd criticism, but smaller pertions would probably have left room for a dessert. Service in teh restaurant was fine. Breakfast was good, again with friendly service. A great location but a few things could...

Selbst-erfüllende Prophezeiung oder einfach richtige Vorahnung? Wie auch immer: Ins Restaurant "Esplanade" bin ich mit der Befürchtung rein gegangen, dass es sich um eine typische Touristen-Falle handeln könnte – und dieses ungute Vorgefühl wurde leider nicht widerlegt!

Die Enttäuschung fing schon damit an, dass auf der ausgehändigten Speisekarte Gerichte fehlten, die ich im Vorfeld auf der Website des Lokals noch gefunden hatte. Froschschenkel zum Beispiel? Fehlanzeige. Die meisten Wildgerichte? Auch mit Abwesenheit glänzend. Einiges davon mag ja saisonal bedingt sein, aber ein seriöses Etablissement zeichnet sich meiner Meinung nach dadurch aus, dass dann auch der Online-Auftritt entsprechend aktualisiert wird. Eine schlecht gepflegte bzw. vernachlässigte Website ist eigentlich oft ein Indiz dafür, dass auch mit dem Lokal selbst was nicht stimmt.

Weiter ging es mit der Bestellung. Der Bedienung sah man es irgendwie an, dass es bemüht war, freundlich und entgegenkommend zu sein. Von Restaurant-Personal erwarte ich jetzt keinen überschwänglichen Enthusiasmus, aber man sollte es sich zumindest nicht anmerken lassen, dass die ganze Gastfreundlichkeit nur gespielt ist. Auch war unsere Bedienung etwas zu beeilt, unsere Bestellung entgegen zu nehmen; als wir dann beim zweiten Aufschlagen der Bedienung um etwas mehr Zeit baten, die – übrigens stark nach dem Kunststoff der Klarsichthüllen riechende – Speisekarte zu studieren, dauerte es unverhältnismäßig lange, bis die Bedienung zum Aufnehmen der Bestellung wieder vorbei kam.

So. Nun zum Essen selbst. Der von mir bestellte frittierte Mosel-Fisch (eigentlich eine Spezialität der Region) war eine einzige Katastrophe. Der Fisch war total über-frittiert und hatte dadurch nicht nur sämtliche Saftigkeit verloren, sondern war auch noch sehr nahe an der Ungenießbarkeit hart und bröckelig geworden. Eigentlich hätte ich den Fisch zurück gehen lassen sollen, aber ich wollte meiner Begleitung die unvermeidbare zeitliche Verzögerung in der Speisenfolge nicht zumuten. Ein paar Wochen zuvor hatte ich in einem portugiesischen Restaurant in Hamburg ebenfalls frittierten Fisch (Boquerones) gegessen und auch wenn Beides nicht ganz miteinander vergleichbar ist, war das Geschmackserlebnis beim Portugiesen um Welten besser.

Aufgrund dieses Erlebnisses hätte das Restaurant "Esplanade" eigentlich nur einen Stern in meiner Bewertung verdient. Den zweiten Stern vergebe ich dem Lokal nur, weil an der bestellten Vorspeise (mit Speck ummantelter Ziegenkäse auf Salat-Bouquet) nichts auszusetzen war und das von meiner Begleitung bestellte Gericht (Rinderfilet in Pfeffersauce) auch noch passabel – wenn auch nicht außergewöhnlich gut – war. Meine Begleitung und ich sind jedenfalls sehr enttäuscht aus diesem Lokal heraus gegangen; eine Empfehlung für das Restaurant "Esplanade" können wir definitiv nicht...
