OYO Home 90467 Grapevine Garden — Hotel in Borneo

I recently stayed here, and overall, I had a pleasant experience despite some minor issues.

🏡 Room Experience: 🌙 1st Night (Room 18) This room was at the corner, and I didn’t feel completely safe as the door lock wasn’t very secure. It made sleeping at night a bit uneasy. The room was small but nicely set up. Basic toiletries were provided (tissue & 2-in-1 soap). Only one toilet slipper was available. The towel had a strong smell, possibly due to not drying properly. Air conditioning was slow to cool the room. The hairdryer didn’t work, but they provided a standby one, which was helpful. The biggest downside: It was noisy at night due to people walking, running, moving luggage, and even babies crying.

🌙 2nd Night (Room 20) I had to switch rooms because of a water leak from the ceiling. The hotel staff was responsive and quickly arranged for a room change, which I appreciated. The staff wasn’t the friendliest but still helpful, especially when I requested two extra pillows. The air conditioning was much better in this room. Hairdryer worked fine. Less noise, as this room wasn’t at the corner.

📶 Wi-Fi & Other Notes Two Wi-Fi access points were available, but the signal wasn’t strong. I ordered GrabFood, and the rider left it at the reception. Luckily, I checked the app and ran to get it just in time—haha!

🌿 Outdoor Area – There’s a small table with two chairs outside where you can sit and enjoy the surroundings. But since Kota Kinabalu’s weather is crazy hot, I only lasted 3-5 minutes before heading back inside.

🛠 Suggestions for Improvement: Room locks should be upgraded for better safety, especially for guests staying alone. Improve towel drying to avoid the damp smell.

⭐ Final Thoughts: Despite some issues, I enjoyed my stay! The quick response from the hotel team and the overall comfort made up for the minor inconveniences.

We wanted to get a basic room which was near the airport to rest & freshen up before our flight back to Kuala Lumpur. Hence, we decided on the Family Room at Oyo Grapevine Garden. Unfortunately, the room was on the 1st Floor. But since it had 2 queen size beds which was right for us, we ignored that fact. ||We had trouble looking for the Hotel as it was raining & quite dark. Besides, we didn’t have any WiFi connection due to the rain. When we arrived, there wasn’t any space to park our car. I ran inside to check-in while the rest waited in the car.||Check-in was fast & easy. Thankfully, we were given a room on the ground floor instead. We carried our luggage ourselves & were happy to see 3 double beds. The room was long & didn’t have much space which made unpacking difficult. The air-conditioner was excellent. Bottled water was supplied apart from the normal tea & coffee sachets. Although WiFi was complimentary, it wasn’t stable. Perhaps, it was due to the rain.||Furthermore, the bathroom was small & left me feeling claustrophobic. Fortunately, the water pressure was excellent & it made me forget about the small space. The towels provided were not fluffy but good enough to keep us dry after a good hot shower.||We played cards on the bed before it was time to leave for dinner. ||When we returned to check-out, there wasn’t anyone at the Front Desk. Since the room had been paid for, we dropped the room key in the key box upon checking-out.||I would probably stay in this hotel again as it is convenient. The stay overall was satisfactory until the final day, when I encountered a couple of issues that caused significant inconvenience. On the night of my check-in, I requested an extra pillow as I have lower back pain. However, I ended up waiting for over an hour. When the staff finally came to explain, I was informed that the extra pillow had been given to another guest who had requested it after me. I found this to be unfair and disappointing, as my request was made earlier and for a genuine reason.To make matters worse, on the last day, when I had a flight to catch, there was a complete lack of water on the first floor. This unexpected situation disrupted my preparations and made it quite challenging to get ready for my journey.That being said, I really love the vibes here overall.
