MG is a small two storey hotel that provides everything you need for a stay in Mersing. We stayed in a ground floor room (which didn’t require any steps at all). There was free parking just outside our room and bringing in luggage was easy. The location was good, near all the shops and the local Chinese and Indian temples. We were able to walk to everything we wanted to see. Check-in was easy and the wifi worked well. The 24 hr front desk had friendly staff and there was a vending machine with cold drinks. It was pretty expected that most people are heading to the islands off-coast (we weren’t) and the hotel offered extra parking and services if you were doing that.||||The room had a pretty basic decor with tiled floor throughout but was roomy and clean. We had a large king size bed but there were also rooms with two double beds. We also had a small table and desk with three chairs and adequate charging spots. The room included a flat screen tv, tea making facilities, a hairdryer, toilet paper and soap (but bring your own shampoo) which was good for a low cost hotel. It had really good adjustable air conditioning which you are asked to not take it below 19 degrees (more than enough!). The bathroom was also spacious with one of those instant heating showers which requires turning on and turning dials but was warm and had good water pressure. There wasn’t a separate shower enclosure so exercise...
Read moreHORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! I would give 0 stars if possible! We booked 2 rooms at this hotel well in advance and even contacted them TWICE via email to confirm our booking. Each time, they assured us that everything was fine. Well, we arrived, and the man at the front desk told us they did not have a reservation for our second room. We arrived in the late afternoon, and as a tourist family, this situation was incredibly stressful!
They offered us another room in their hotel (a horrible, filthy room), but said the price was DOUBLE compared to the much nicer room we had booked in advance! This behavior is totally unacceptable and displays horrendous customer care. Not only did they not apologize, but the receptionist was LAUGHING the entire time. When we decided to leave and find another hotel, ONLY THEN did they offer the missing room with a 50% discount. To make matters worse, they denied us a refund for the room, even though it was clearly their fault.
It is truly unacceptable to behave like this. First of all, it's the hotel's fault for the missing booking (why do you take bookings if you cannot honor them!?). Then, not only did they fail to apologize or find a solution, but they tried to SCAM us by offering a horrible room at double the price. I ABSOLUTELY DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANY TOURIST. It was extremely difficult to find another hotel with no notice in such a small town....
Read moreStayed at this budget hotel for two nights (1-2/5/2023) when visiting Mersing before taking a ferry to Tioman island. Fast check in procedure and plenty of car parks available. We were given rooms on upper floor. The room was equiped with Aircon, fan, tv, hair dryer, shower heater, toilet roll, hangers, towels and a small soap only. Good water power for shower. Comfortable bed. Friendly staff and they allow me to request for additional pillow. There is a water filter next to the reception counter. Check out procedure was fast and convenient. The reception counter is open for 24 hours. They charge rm10 per night for overnight parking if you wish to park your car at the hotel compound when travel to tioman island. It is walkable to the nearby cafe, KFC, shell station and even a big supermaket just behind the hotel. The only disadvantage is there are two cats in the hotel compound and one of them will frequently climb over your car and rest on it. Therefore, if you love your car then you might need to take note. Otherwise it is a great hotel to stay for staycation for few...
