Extremely Disappointed – Ruined Our Anniversary We checked in for our anniversary, hoping for a relaxing getaway, but ended up checking out within an hour due to how appalling the experience was. This was, without exaggeration, the worst hotel stay we’ve ever encountered and we didn’t even stay long enough to sleep. We arrived early at 2pm and decided to grab lunch at the café while waiting for the 3pm check-in. The café was empty, yet it took ages for our food to arrive. The Caesar salad came with a fly in it. No apology. No urgency. When we returned to reception after 3pm, we were told the room wasn’t ready. No explanation, just a dismissive “please wait, the room is not ready.” when check in time is 3pm. We finally got our room after 4pm. Upon entering, we were hit with a strong mouldy smell. The building is extremely dated, and the room condition was unacceptable. Here's what we found: * Mould on the ceiling, doors, and all the pillows with bad odour * Food crumbs on the floor - housekeeping clearly didn’t clean * A dirty, mouldy, run-down toilet that looked neglected for years * A broken electric kettle and non-functional TV * Dust, dirt, dead bugs on the bed and everywhere We were horrified. We’ve stayed in budget hotels before and never experienced anything this bad. This was supposed to be a resort but felt like a punishment. To make things worse, the photos online are completely deceiving. It seems they used old photos or heavily edited images, because what we saw in person looked nothing like what was advertised. The resort is nowhere near the condition portrayed. The beach bar was also under maintenance. Tuck shop was awful. The only thing that was ok was the beach view from our balcony. When we checked out, the receptionist asked why and we explained everything. But after hearing, she showed zero concern, offered no solution or apology, and acted like this was normal and said "ok". That’s what made it worse, it felt like they already knew and just didn’t care. Despite the countless poor reviews over the past few years, it seems nothing has changed. The hotel replies to selected Google reviews with a standard “sorry, we hope to welcome you back again” but clearly no action is ever taken. We left within an hour. Yes, we gave up our stay and our anniversary plan, that’s how bad it was. We have never walked out of a hotel and wasted our money like this before. For the price paid, you’ll find much better options elsewhere. Save yourself the regret.

We recently had the pleasure of staying at a beach resort with our young children, and the experience was truly delightful. We checked in on a weekday and there wasn't much crowd. The resort offered a perfect balance of relaxation and family-friendly activities, making it an ideal destination for those with kids. Here's our review of our stay and the night drive to nearby restaurants and local shops: Accommodation: Our beachfront room on the 1st of 4 levels, was cozy and well-maintained. (Less a faulty socket for the lamp). It was a stone's throw away from the pool and especially the beach, which was incredibly convenient with our young children. The seaview and horizon view in the morning was simply breathtaking. Family-Friendly Atmosphere: The resort had a relaxed and family-friendly vibe. The staff was accommodating and always ready to assist us (Frontdesk called us in the evening to ask if all is in order). We felt safe and welcomed, which is crucial when traveling with kids. Beach Activities: Our kids had a blast playing in the sand and building sandcastles. We took long dips in the sea and then the pool. Culinary Experience: The resort's restaurant offered a range of kid-friendly options. We had the local breakfast that ranged from meals, to pastries, salads, porridge, pasta etc. Night Drive to Nearby Restaurant and Shops: We decided to drive and venture out for dinner to a nearby local restaurant and explore the local shops. The night drive was an adventure in itself, which was quiet and traffic was super smooth. The restaurant (D'Laksmana) served fantastic seafood and local dishes, which we all enjoyed. They were also Subway, HoneyBee, Pizza Hut, KFC along the way. Sunset Viewing: The sunsets at the beach resort were magical, and our kids loved watching the sky change colors. It was an excellent way to end the day. In summary, our stay at the simple beach resort was a memorable and family-friendly experience. We had quality time with our children, enjoyed the beautiful surroundings, and had the opportunity to explore the local culture. It's a destination we'd gladly return to for another relaxing family vacation.

Decided on TUNAMAYA to spend the nye countdown weekend due to its location near the beach and the room (from photos) looks comfortable. This resort is definitely good for tourists who want pure peace and quiet. The building was indeed very old as most reviews have stated. Due to the one and only available ferry arrival timing to be very early at 10am (why i'm not sure which authority decided on such timings), we tried to ask for early checkin, however they were very firm on 3pm checkin timing. Was one of the first to reach the counter for registration and mentioned my initial request for high floor room, but they were fast to brushed me off and repeatedly said "subject to availability". Just feel there isn't much human touch in our hopeful requests from the front counter staffs. Ended up getting the lowest floor. Despite it being a new year eve weekend, there were no countdown events and it was pretty dark and quiet as compared to the blooming lotus desaru next door which has its water and fun fair carnivals and fireworks prepared for public and their guests. Luckily we went next door to have a much better end to the new year. The resort breakfast was pretty good, except that the 1 and only soup option tasted very salty and it seems that they only refilled the dishes 2-3 times, if you're arriving for bf at around 8.30am onwards, please be prepared to see blanks. Nevertheless the staffs at the breakfast venue deserve praises as they were attentive to cleaning up the tables for guests to take. The positive would be the room as its very spacious and clean, good to stay in. The gym room and pool was fine as well, but the atv and water sports booth i feel can give it a miss. Another positive would be the seafood restaurant near TUNAMAYA, Nelayan Seafood by The Coast, the quality and standard and affordability of the food is very good. Overall won't be coming back again. There are definitely much more value-worth beach resorts around desaru.

Honestly the location was beautiful but the service is very bad, there’s so much to complain 1. We requested for water bottle at night, they said they’ll bring but they didn’t hence we called back, and they said room service is on holiday off😐 like I paid for 4 delux room, and they tell me room service is on holiday.2. The door knobs were so rusty and we couldn’t open the back door we struggled to open, it wouldn’t cost that much to change a door knob pls Tunamaya change to proper functioning door knobs.3. The breakfast was very bad, we went to eat breakfast at 8:25am, but all the food was finished n cleaned n they didn’t even refill the food even after requesting them several times, the food taste was bad but the service was even badder, we had to wait for so long just go get the food items to be refilled. Many ppl began to complain and got agitated as well.4. The second day , from 12:45pm - 2:19pm, there was NO ELECTRIC. We weren’t able to charge our electronics and the toilets were super dark n had to use our phone which the battery was already dying. And they did not compensate. But when checking out only they told us we can get a late check out. But they did not even inform us and by that time we already got our bags out. 5. The aircond is soooo dirtyyyy, filled with dust. Make us check in late at 3pm with the excuse they have to get the room ready but the condition of the room says otherwise. Not only that but our room toilet soaps were all emptyyyyyy🫠 I seriously don’t get hotels and resorts giving us late check in and have to check out early saying have to clean rooms, but nothing was prepared 😐 so angry6. The room we were staying in, the toilet light was so dim and when i looked up the light lid was filled with I don’t know what it was but it looks like cockroaches eggs, I felt sooo disgusted cuz it was filled with tiny eggs looking thing, as you can see in the picture.7. And the phone to call room service didn’t work, I had to keep switching to my other rooms to call room service to request for stuff. And some plugs were unplugged aswell.I just don’t understand cause we booked 4 delux rooms but the service and experience is so bad, please improve with the service and the food, cause Tunamaya is such a pretty location but the service just ruins it. The delux room was nice due to it being easy to access the beach n wheelchair friendly aswell.Hotels should be fair for the price customers pay, giving us late check in and we have to check out on time or we have to pay a fine of RM150 for every hours we delays. But when they do all these mistakes we as customers do not get compensated. Pls la hotels and resort try to give good service to...

Few feedbacks to provide based on my two-nights stay:-

Free breakfast included was horrible, no wonder it’s free, don’t even think it meets its minimal standard. Roti prata was raw and warm, the daal was terrible. The plain porridge was pure plain even with its bad choice of condiments. Fried Koay Teow and Koay Teow soup was bad and not appetizing. Sliced white bread came with various condiments, but exposed condiments that you need to spread at the counter immediately (so unhygienic, can’t even provide individual pack-sized condiments). Coffee & tea (which tastes like water) can’t even be provided via a proper coffee & tea machine dispenser. The café was understaffed too. The experience was dull and devastating.

Poor reservation system at D’Ombak Spa. We had a booking at 9PM, but it had to be postponed to 10AM the next morning because some other customers walked in and the staffs gave them the slot without proper verification of reservation. But kudos to them for being sincere enough to apologize and address the problem. Spa experience was alright too.

Pool was closed from 11AM-4PM on weekdays for cleaning. I do not understand this as any sort of cleaning should be done during the night. Excuse me, but your hotel guests paid to enjoy their holidays here by the beach and by the poolside. You do not restrict hours like this and excuse them from the pool.

Quality of WiFi connection and TV services provided were terrible. Please look into further investments and upgrade on this.

Complimentary water in the room should be complimentary. When the room gets refreshed, new bottles of complimentary water should be in place. When it was not given and I asked for it, I was declined twice in person and on phone. Insists that it had to be charged. Honestly, how much would it cost the hotel?? And how much would you earn from it?? Two bottles of water could’ve won your customer’s hearts to return here again.

For a resort to have a 4-star reputation on booking sites, with the price that I’m paying (RM800++ for 2 nights), the facilities & services provided should’ve been better. Giving a 2-star rating only because the room was still livable and the staffs from D’Ombak Spa were great. Resort should look into refurbishments too — not very...
