Being a Globetrotter, loves to travel around world. Always been an AirBNB client for accommodations on trips overseas as being a foodie loves to try sometimes home cooked meal so always booked places with kitchen included through them. Me & my buddy have some business dealings in Cancun so travelling there is a regular deal for us sometimes every 3rd month or sooner. Always had used AirBNB for renting houses in Cancun, Mahahual, Bacalar, Chetumal, Merida in Mexico as whenever in Cancun we decide to drive around & visit places around this part of Mexico.||||On our recent visit to Cancun in March (after 1year, 2months & 2days - when came back to States on April 4, 2021 from an overseas visit as our last trip back from Sau Paulo was on February 2, 2021), rented 2 places with Kitchen/WiFi through AirBNB as always been doing in past(minimum requirements per my travel style). One was in Merida & other was in Cancun.||||In Merida, we were scammed into a Hotel (1 room for 4 people) whereas the listing on AirBNB was for a place with 2 Bedrooms, Living Area, Kitchen, Pools etc.) Tried talking to the Host listed per AirBNB confirmation email but was getting nowhere. Told my travel buddy to rent 2 new rooms in this so-called Hotel listed as house & leave my AirBNB reservation alone as we were all tired after a long flight from Chicago to Cancun via Denver, phone batteries were almost zero. ||||Used power outlet at the reception area of this hotel while my buddy was renting these rooms for us to crash started looking for a place in Merida from next day through AirBNB as always been doing & had the best experiences so far. Owner of Casa Milken was kind enough to respond to my plea & shared her beautiful house with us for the remainder of our stay in Merida. ||||Heading to Cancun for our next stop, tried calling the Host of the property booked through AirBNB (Again) but was unable to get through. Had our friend cum brother in Cancun make a call to the Host of this property for Key pickup instructions which are usually provided by the host after accepting your reservation & payment but was told by him that the phone number has been disconnected.||||Got to the place we paid for, tried talking to the Security Guy at the entrance of these Apt. complex but Language barrier was a big hindrance in our communication. One of the occupants of apartments in this complex came to my rescue as he was bilingual & explained to me that the so-called Owner (per AirBNB listing had moved out of these complexes explaining message about phone number being disconnected. Luckily there was a mall with Starbucks close by, drove in so can use their WiFi to look for another place to crash. While I was browsing AirBNB (me STUPID again to use them after 2 repeatedly worst experiences) my buddy came across this place by accident. Reading the description, decided to book 2 rooms for at least that night & look for a new place later.||Walked into this Hotel, although the location is not in the obvious neighborhood asked Oscar (front desk) to show us the rooms we paid for. As hotel is going through renovations or rebuilding, elevator was not installed yet, had to use the stairs to get to our rooms at 3rd level. Tired after a long drive from Merida plus the worst experience (AGAIN) with AirBNB plus using stairs with all the luggage to the 3rd level had already me thinking of finding better place for remainder of our trip. ||The moment, opened the room door, was taken back & impressed with what saw with my eyes. Fairly large sized room (familiar with hotel standards as family owns Holiday Inn in States) with Couch, Microwave, Fridge & Coffee Maker, it was like all the troubles we went through AirBNB in Merida & Cancun were a forgotten bad story. Extended the stay from 1 night to 3 nights as didn't feel any need to search for another place as this place had provided everything, I usually need in my AirBNB booking request (a well-defined version of Kitchen & Living Area). Staff in hotel is very friendly/accommodating. ||One of the highlights of this hotel is the Jacuzzi Pool at the rooftop which we really used all the times during our stay. They also have another large pool in the basement for people who can't stand high winds or cold which I don't think should hinder one from using the Rooftop pool. ||They have a restaurant which serves a fairly good size & priced breakfast with a smile (thanks Lena for your cooking & service). Overall, this hotel tops my list of places have stayed in all over South American Countries. ||A place with smiles filled staff & amenities anyone can think of, one should try as in case of us will be going back there for our future stays in Cancun. Bye bye AirBNB.||||Just to warn fellow travelers about AirBNB Customer Service & Scams pulled by their hosts. AirBNB used to be trustworthy & helpful but after this experience not one but two had made me think about them losing the core values their business model was built on. I think since AirBNB has grown so much, they don't care for Customers anymore, heading for its downfall. ||Fellow travelers take from an experienced traveler - BE CAREFUL WHEN USING AIRBNB to avoid unnecessary hassles on your trip where you are supposed to be Relaxing not fighting with AirBNB or others for mess ups...
Read moreA hidden gem which we found as our reservation through AirBNB was fake. With limited network availability drove to the nearest mall and started looking for some place to crash for the night after a long drive from Merida. My buddy found this place on Hotel.com, liked what read on site and decided to give this place a shot for at least one night. When walked in Oscar the front desk kid was very friendly, showed us the rooms. Was really shocked with what saw in the rooms. Fair sized room with Microwave, Coffee maker which was the reason always opted for a house with kitchen through AirBNB during my travels all over world. Got the reservation extended for the whole duration of trip(3 nights n 4 days). Including the room facilities hotel has a Jacuzzi pool on the rooftop with excercise room(didn't had the need to use as used stairs elevator was being repaired). Has a restaurant where Leena the cook very friendly and prepared breakfast (very good). Not to forget Roberto who was also very friendly and helpful. Even the housekeeping staff fell in the same category. People try this place, won't be sorry as we will be staying at this place regularly since my buddy has some business and our mexican brother Amir in Cancun so go there every 2/3 months. I don't think will look for any rental place through AirBNB in Cancun after this trip experiences first in Merida where we got scammed into a hotel room for 4 whereas while booking through AirBNB site listing showed 2 bedrooms, living room, kitchen, pool etc. Instead of arguing just paid for 2 rooms at regular rate to crash for night since flew in from Chicago so we all were tired n literally dead. I have written to AirBNB for refund of all monies paid and charges paid for those 2 rooms in that scammed place, hoping to get my money or will have to pursue through my credit card company. Frankly rental I got for next 2 nights in Merida n stay in this hotel made this trip a memorable one inspire of all this mess in accomodations through AirBNB. Just wanted to vent out as had to hear and face looks of my travel partner firs at Merida then at Cancun. Have some pictures which would love to share but my phone needs to be charged so will be adding at a later date for others to see this awesome hotel and...
Read moreGreat hotel in central location! Comes with fresh hand cooked breakfast every morning with eggs, toast, fresh fruit, coffee or tea, and meat if you want it. The service here is so great and everyone is willing to help. Security is pretty tight, they don’t let you in without someone buzzing the door open because the street at night is kind of sketchy. That being said, we did walk back to our hotel from the main road a few times so if you take precautions your fine. For the price point the amenities in the hotel are pretty nice. Cleaning service everyday with fresh towels, your own AC unit, your own Wi-Fi network with Netflix, a gym, rooftop jacuzzi, and underground pool. Sometimes it would get loud at night from music from the gym but you could call to front desk and get it handled. The sunshines pretty brightly through the curtains in the morning. The bathroom is pretty basic, if there were anything to improve I’d say the shampoo/conditioner/soap and doors on the shower itself which were pretty lightweight. The bed was large and comfy however only three pillows. The room also comes with a large refrigerator and freezer if you wanted and a safe to store your belongings in. We did use that safe for important documents and were relieved that it worked out for us. Uber and taxi drivers didn’t have a problem coming to our hotel however most didn’t know where it was. Usually we’d say it’s near Parque rehoyada. Conveniently, the bus stop to hotel zone is just steps away on the main road so that was helpful. Also convenience stores and currency exchange just a few blocks away we walked to. The hotel also recommended a reliable appointment based COVID testing place that was cheaper than anything we saw in the rest of Cancun and had results delivered to our phone within the hour (Salud Digna). I would recommend this hotel to others but caution with the location that’s all. If you would like something more safe and secured without having to look over your shoulder while you walk around at night, then this isn't the place for you. If you want a cheap, centrally located with all the basic amenities and free breakfast you need, then this is your spot!
Thanks Roberto for making us feel so safe...
