Stayed at Residencia Mexicana (that's the name on the sign outside the hotel) for a few nights during New Year's 2014-2015. We reserved almost a month in advance through telephone with no hassle. We asked for a place to park our car during our stay and were told that there were some pay-by-the-hour parking lots, but they told us that for $100 pesos they could save us a space across the street with a guy that washes cars there. If you're visiting Guanajuato only, you won't need a car, but we planned visiting other places which required taking the car out. We took the car out on our second day and we lost our parking place. Use this parking option if you won't be using your car during your entire stay. The rest of the stay we parked our car at the ISSEG parking lot across the street, where the Vips restaurant is located.||||We were given the room in front of the hotel's reception. We were surprised that the steel door had a "trick" to open, takes a few minutes to master. The door needs maintenance as it is a problem to open and difficult to close as well. Room was spacious and had a private bathroom. Something that is really weird is that the on the other side of the bathroom window there's another room! The window is closed, has frosted glass and the handle has been taken away, but still one can see if the room next door has the light turned on as well as hearing what happens there (and I assume they can hear you as well!). Another awkward thing is that the toilet seat is really small and kind of shallow and if you're a man trying to take a dump either you poo or pee. There's no way to do both while you're seating without getting your manhood sipping from the toilet (weird, I know).||||The rate includes breakfast but we didn't try it, so we can't really say anything about that.||||Hotel also offers free wifi, but the signal never reached our room.||||Like other reviewers have mentioned, our room's windows had curtains but the steel door has a big frosted glass window with no curtain or anything blocking light to get in. Really annoying at night since the front desk's light is always on.||||There's a bar next door and is located just above our room. Pretty noisy at night.||||Summarizing, if you don't need luxury, if you won't be using your car (or you get there by bus) and if you are on a limited budget, their location is really great. If you're traveling with your spouse and are used to comfort, there are other options I would consider before Residencia Mexicana. Unfortunately we visited during New Year's (which is high season) and couldn't find a better option for...
Read moreWe thought we had found a town with reasonable priced hostels again until we inspected a couple of them and our hearts sunk. Luckily on the verge of giving up, I decided to walk across the road and stumbled into this cute place. At first it didn't look good when the prices were higher than our budget but as I turned to leave the manager said she had one room she could give for a lower price, after a bit of negotiating it ended up in our price range - yeah. I couldn't figure out why this was so much better than what we had seen until as I walked out the door I heard someone say "this is the most popular place in town it rocks every night". I reentered and asked the manager is it noisy at night - her response was to open her drawer and give us ear plugs -uh oh! I tend to be a sensitive sleeper.||Our first night was a Monday and the music went to about 1-2 am. The next night was relatively quiet and out last night was loud until about 4am but my ear plugs were very good (could still feel the vibration of the base).||The place was very clean. The communal shower was really hot. Room was cleaned daily.||Note there are much nicer rooms with huge king beds, coffee makers, flats screen tv's, private...
Read morewe stayed at Casa Mexicana Guanajuato for three nights over new years eve. upon arrival we were greeted by an unfriendly, old man who was about as charming as Mr. Scrooge. He showed us our room which was tiny and showed signs of mold - probably from the shared bathroom next door. The bed was comfortable enough to sleep in but the lights from the courtyard shone in through the window in the door all night with no curtains or other possibilities to shut it out. ||breakfast was included in the price of 52 US dollar (for a room with shared bathroom!!) but consisted of one (1!!) scrambled egg and artificial orange juice. ||||The location of Casa Mexicana is good, really close to the city center and located right next to a nice bar (bar fly; also means that you shouldnt mind loud music until the early hours if you consider staying here). ||||All in all we werent happy with the quality of Casa Mexicana, especially considering the steep price they...
