Guanajuato is a friendly town with a lively student population,It has a great climate, we went in July and it was in the mid 80s and very sunny. The main plaza the jardin is a lovely shady square surrounded by restaurants and bars with live music in every corner. In the evening everyone goes out to eat or just si t around often grandparents ,parents and children all together as a family. Though there are lots of students around they were very laid back and not at all intimidating, in fact the whole place was very friendly and felt totally safe, even wandering around at night. Read moreMariachi central. Several nice restaurants with lots of outdoor seating. Mariachis and vendors will be hitting you up consistently. Be ready to hire a mariachi band if you are out on a date. We had two competing bands consistently coming to oir table at the restaurant we went to. When we were ready we just had to look at the mariachis under the trees for them to quickly come over and make a deal. 5 songs for 1000pesos. It was worth it. I think mariachi is the best music in the world.

While the majority of vendors don't speak fluid English (shocker I know), even a malo Spanish speaker like myself had no problems shopping.
