I went to Guanajuato to be with my 16 year old who was in language school. My daughters father was helping me by looking at a variety of places to stay at while I visited her. From his descriptions it sounded like it fit my needs. It did for two nights (sort of). He made a deposit towards the intended stay.||||. The first night we arrived, I found out that they did not take cards but were willing to wait until I could safely access a bank machine. They reviewed the billing with me and it had been written incorrectly - a miscommunication between my ex and the front desk person. So I clarified with the receptionist about the amount I was to pay, 1,000 pesos less than was due for the 7 days. She made several calls to the owner in order to clarify the pricing. I am not asked for id or to sign anything that says there are specific guidelines or services. When I paid in the morning there was no issue.|||| My room was a single just off the community kitchen area. The building has an open interior design so that you can hear what is happening in the open hallways or community kitchen. When I was in the lobby I could hear some conversations and activities in the kitchen. ||||Noise:|| The first night loud music from the next door bar and the one across the street. The next morning no breakfast set out. I did not know what was communal and what was personal.|||| Second night same issues with the bars plus 6 woman in the dormitory laughing and talking loudly until 3 in the morning. No one from the staff talked with them. Other guest went to them twice and told them it was community quiet hours (supposedly 10 pm to 6 am.). The breakfast was good a tortilla chicken salsa thing. It sat out all day - never covered or put in the fridge. 85 degrees and humid. The next morning guess whats for breakfast? The tortilla chicken salsa thing between two slices of bread made on a waffle iron.|||| Third night bars were less noisy and the loud women had left. 3rd night - people I had spoken with a couple of times were making and eating dinner from 930 until about 1015. The next morning no breakfast - I'd already given up on that.|||| 4th night - people I had spoken with before decide to start dinner at 930 and this time decide to use to blender and discuss things while blending at high speeds, I wanted to go out and talk with them but I was at the beginning of a cold/flu/tourista process and did not trust my self too far from the room. They were done at 1115. The "students" (a group of 6) arrive back from the bars at 12 am. They proceed to go to the terraza which has its main seating area over my bed. At 1 am I went upstairs at tell them I am trying to sleep. They shut it down pretty quick. At 530 am Miguel, the only employee I've seen besides the owner begins washing the floors. That morning local pastries fresh squeezed orange juice and coffee.|||| During these previous nights no one from staff has ever come up to talk with guest about quiet hours, no new postings, nothing.|||| 5th night now I am really ill. I call my ex and he starts looking for another place for me as I speak little to no Spanish and the owner and staff of Hostal del Campeneros speak little to no English. He was able to find accommodations very quickly. It is 930 and the "students" plus 3 other young people are starting to make dinner. One of them is able to tell Miguel that I leaving tonight and I will come back to get a refund in the morning||||Dishonest||When I returned to the hostel the owner was talking with someone but a man I had never met greeted in excellent English and said he was a friend of the owner and he would help with translation. I should have brought a translator. First I was told that I reneged on the payment agreement - I went over that with him. Meanwhile she is saying something in Spanish and looking through the notebooks they use for their reception accounting. Finally she stops shuffling, listens to him. She had agreed with him with what he said to her.. Then when I ask for two nights refund she said many things to him and not much to me. He tried to ignore her and listen to me. This went on for a bit with her continuing to mutter and I kept to my message of wanting refund for only the two nights pre-paid and the 100 peso I paid in advance for my dtr to stay one night. She never stayed. I gave up on getting the 100 pesos back. I continued asking for the two night refund, She refuses to repay me because its in the rules she doesn't have to. The owner throws her had towards the wall where there is a framed poster that she says are the rules. It is written in Spanish. I asked her ( in a overly loud voice) if she has it written in English on any websites, paperwork or handouts here. No responses to me by either of them. She talks to him loud and I decide to leave. || ||Free wifi means you have to pay them after being on for 30 minutes. Windows XP|| ||The posters outside of the building are in English and make references to being international. The are not affiliated with Youth Hostels...
Read moreWe just arrived here in the late night. Actually we're looking for another hostel, but unfortunately it's closed(That means we have no option without this). It seems to be pretty good - good price, wide range kitchen & mountain view terrace, big locker box inside dorm and so on. We're realized the serious problem after being stolen our precious properties inside locker box!! It's locked with our numbering keys. After 2 days to stay there during that late night, one guy check in and the day after tomorrow he's gone. With policeman we check his same fingerprint from his stuffs(he runs away to leave his little things). We know it's not responsibility of here. But This hostel doesn't know WHO HE IS. They didn't check any passport. At the end forcing to find him, they tell us his name. But I found his(the thief) receipt of laundry, it's not same. The staffs pretend not to speak English(before, he does), doesn't help us. a staying here, we lost half of our life. We're talking with some friends inside the dorm, they complain about no function of the locker in private room. If you have nothing to lose, maybe it's good. I'm sure you have something that you don't wanna lose. Many people say Guanajuato is the most beautiful city of Mexico, For us It's the most...
Read moreI got into town late so I decided to stay here because of the location. I'm not sure why they even have walls, because I can hear every word, every note of music, and every keystroke on the computer from the common area. The rooms are dingy- the paint looks like it was done in 10 minutes by a child, the blanket full of holes, the bed made of plywood, and you can feel every spring in the mattress. It also just smells bad and with no window or fan, there's no way to get rid of it. I can't imagine how stuffy it'd be in summer, but I'm here in December so it's not a problem. I haven't interacted with any other travelers- the only ones I've seen haven't looked up from the computers. ||I was planning on staying 3 nights, but I'm checking out as soon as I finish this review. I'm in a private single room because the dorms were full. People say music from the bar goes all night, but I was kept up til 2 by classical music, not sure where from. I was also woken up at 7:30 by people talking and playing music in reception ||||The good: fast Internet (that goes out for a few seconds frequently), good location, no complaints...
