Stayed at irma based on the rave reviews of this place..the only good I can say is the location is decent if u dont mind being right in the middle of a steep hill. However...when we arrived it became a different realization. There is no coffee provided so we brought our own ahead of time. Thank god! Allegedly they claim free coffee only to find out it was instant and could only get it from 7am to 730 am and after being here for two weeks heard several guests grumbling it wasn't available on time. Although there is a small coffee shop down the hill to the right which has great coffee and expresso, Also...if you are a smoker good luck...now mind you I'm not but they do not tell you there is no smoking in this open air hotel and no matter what its a walk down many steps to get to the front to smoke. I guess thats a good thing for non smokers. Also..while we were there which was from Jan 7 to Jan 21 there is loud construction going on right next to irma that will not be complete til spring of 2019 so as far as relaxing by the pool goes forget it..unless you enjoy the clink clink clink of hammers and loud saws and grinders. It's real nice trying to lay out by the pool as some peak over and stare at you! NOT! We felt unless you are a irma regular that they depend on or write excellent reviews you won't get the exceptional rooms provided. Yes I understand these people book a year in advance but seriously? First off we were put up on 4th floor with two small double beds but atleast had a ocean view. We also had adequate counterspace...my husband is 6'2 And we decided to inquire if they had a king bed with ocean view. They did accomadate this but clearly this room is reserved for people that didnt want to be going up and down floors. Not the case here..it was my husband could not sleep with feet hanging over the bed that was hard as a rock ! So off we go to the second floor ocean view with a king bed!! What a farce!! The bed was broken and was at a huge slant that every nite I would literally roll into my husband . We did go down to tell them about this and were assured they would fix It! Also the bedding cover slipped off a corner of the mattress and I was mortified how stained and dirty it was. Thank God I saw this as we were checking out for there's noway I would of Stayed !Ahh..the bathroom...this was interesting. You could not close the bathroom door without stepping into the shower literally! You also have to keep a rubber plastic disk over the drain or you could smell toxic direct sewer line...gross. if one is over 6 feet good luck sitting on toilet..your knees will surely bump into the toilet paper roll which is cemented into the wall. Also the nite 2 days before leaving out air conditioning broke. The maintanance man put a bandaid on it to get it going...for a few hours so our last nite was without airconditioning. What a treat that was. Also..beware if you are not on the breakfast plan they give you the bill with the gratuity already in the final bill. The average was between 20 to 30 dollars a day! Unfortunately we didn't pick up on this til the last day. For we tipped on top of the tip already added. Upon checkout we told them about air conditioner was out we got a shoulder shrug...told them for 3rd time they should fix bed.. it was so hard and sleeping on it made me get 2 massages because so uncomfortable. But thats ok they have a great spa and they gave us another shoulder shrug... it's sad because we absolutely love zihaut and this was our first time staying tgere we always did ixtapa. So the good is we found great places to eat and met many wonderful locals. ! We will go back and trust me I never write reviews but after many shoulder shrugs we felt irma wasn't the...
Read moreI really appreciated that the staff wore masks. Throughout our visit in Mexico I felt a tremendous amount of respect for the people doing everything they could to make us feel safe.
Check-in is 3:00. They have a room where they can store your luggage depending on your arrival/need. It was quite hectic the day we arrived and reception staff seemed exhausted. If you feel confused (as I did) here are a some helpful things:
Ask for the WI-FI password. They have a slip that’s printed. WI-FI is very limited!! My husband suspects it’s due to the fact that the entire building is concrete, quite an endeavor when you look around! If connectivity is a must for you I would highly suggest staying elsewhere. You’ll get 2 beach towels & 2 remotes. 1 is for the TV and the other for AC. When you’re ready for fresh towels, bring those down to reception and swap out (don’t forget & leave them at the pool or think they’ll swap out in your room) They take a deposit with your CC for purchases. We didn’t know this and they charged about $160 US. Turns out this was a great option as we used it for cold water bottles, snacks and cocktails each day. The waitstaff give you a sheet to add tip, name, room # & signature. Close out when you’re done for the day. I didn’t know this & they came to our door that 1st day as we were getting ready for bed 👀 Some of the waitstaff came round the pool for orders but generally they gave us space. If you want service, just pop up to the bar or restaurant & let them know what you want & your room #. They were ALL so very nice & tried to accommodate especially since we speak limited Spanish. We really appreciated all of the staff!! 5 ⭐️ for that They made arrangements for covid test 1 day prior to flight. It doesn’t have to be a certain # of hours before your flight, just the day before! It was $1000 peso (around $50 US) It was straightforward and the results were back within a couple of hours from the front reception. Double check that they have your name spelled exactly as it is on your passport. Very much appreciated the ease around this process, thank you! There are many steps, all over the hotel. There isn’t an elevator & in the heat it can feel intense. I think there are 70 steps to the beach itself. We enjoyed the physicality of it as it offers built in exercise 😜 The hotel is also on a very steep hill. You can walk down the hill a bit & there is a very accessible walkway to the beach. This was our preferred way to get to the beach & home again. The stairs from hotel to beach are quite impressive! The included breakfast is very basic “American” style. There are nice spots down the street for smoothies & such if you opt out.
Hotel Irma is a classic old Mexican hotel. The manager greeted us on arrival & we saw her throughout the day walking around checking on people. It was awesome to witness this level of customer service! They care about their staff AND their clients & seem to be busy making updates/improvements. The view, pools, access to food & beach are spot on! I think it is good value for the price and also important to know...
Read moreRead moreEverything went great. Would rate it 4.5 stars, internet connection was available only in lobby, they have Wi-Fi setups all over hotel but nothing works. Friendly staff, decent breakfast. Walking to and from hotel is a workout, located on a hill but because of that views of the bay are awesome. Two pools on lower deck, one with infinity views and another small tub on the upper deck. Hotel has direct access to the beach but it's rather dirty and not perfect for enjoying ocean's swimming. There are plenty beaches around hotel accessible by boat, microbus or just walking. If you want to go to downtown, simply go up and take microbus La Ropa - Centro, it will cost you MXN 7.50 per person either way. La Ropa direction only works till 7 pm, so after that either walk or taxi. From downtown (centro) microbuses or buses are going any direction you want, just need to know name of direction ie Ixtapa, Aeropuerto etc. Recommended Mexican restaurant "Restaurantes Mexicanos Any", Google maps will guide you there. If you need to rent a car, navigate maps to airport and look for Europcar, my review is there as well and hopefully will answer...
