The most enjoyable thing about Gan Casa Xalisco is the staff. They are friendly, very helpful, responsive, and go out their way to help. The first room I checked into had no hot water and the room safe was not operational, and the manager immediately moved me to another room without any issues, whatsoever. The rooms are a good size, updated bathrooms with great water pressure and walk-in showers, and the mattresses were super firm and very comfortable. The structure itself is a charming colonial building, with the first floor being mostly a great hall, and with all the rooms on the second floor. (see the pictures for the view of the first floor.)||||I tend to think of this place more as a pensione, than a hotel. There is someone on duty on the premises 24/7, to answer the door and address questions or concerns. The entrance has a bell with chimes (and a camera) and you ring to be let in. No doorman or bellman at the entrance. Problem is that the bell can be heard throughout the place, so you hear it when the staff arrives at around 7 or so, and when guests arrive. The internet connection was very slow and not reliable. There is also a small bar/lounge on the ground floor that can be really loud at night -- my room was above it. (It is supposed to close at 10 pm, but one night it stayed open until 1:30 am and music and singing was quite loud.) I didn't eat there, but they tell me that the hotel serves breakfast, and other smaller meals can be taken in the bar/lounge.||||As far as location, it is in the middle of a mostly residential area with some businesses nearby. (There is a Sears and a Walmart both just blocks away.) I felt very safe there. The area is about a 10 or 15 minute walk to the historical area, and there isn't much in the immediate vicinity in the way of restaurants. If it is your first time to GDL, you might want to stay closer to the...
Read moreThis hotel used to be a hostel. It is a converted old home. There is no elevator,no handicap access and the staff is nearly impossible to locate.||The rooms are clean and comfortable, but do not expect luxury accommodations. The included breakfast selections consisted of coffee, cereal, milk and fruit.||The area in which this hotel is located in is not the best. The surroundings are dirty, with quite a bit of trash strewn about. A plus, though, there is a market right next door if you want to eat some local "cuisine." All in all, it is an adequate hotel. Not the best, but no where...
