It was Feb 1978 We arrived at Merida train station from Mexico City. We met my friend Julio Sosa R. who owns a Farmacia "Victoria" next to the train station and who brought us to this newly opened hotel. The hotel was called "Hotel Janeiro". We stayed there for 2 weeks and visited all the major archaeological sites in the state of Yucatan. Everything was nice and I hate to leave when the vacation was over. There were a lot of changes in my life after the first visit. I lost my wife and son. I finally got remarried and got my life back to normal again. Unfortunately my newly wedded wife had a brain hemorrhage while delivering her only baby girl. After the operation on her brain the baby was ok but my wife became a vegetable person with mental age of a 2-3 years old. It was near the end of October, 2004 My disabled wife , daughter and I came to Merida and stayed in the same hotel again.||The train station has been deserted for years becoming a public parking lot and not long before we came to Merida My old friend , the pharmacy owner, Jolio Sosa was hit by a bus and died instantly. His drug store has become a metal shop. I will come back to Merida again for the third time and will stay in this Hotel again no matter what condition it is in. This hotel means...
Read moreLas Dalias Inn was more than what I was expecting. It was very clean, although simple. It was nicely located in the middle of the city of Merida, yet it was not loud as you would expect from being inside a city. It was very inexpensive, especially compared to all the other hotels in the area. ||||They even had colored and scented toilet paper! That is something I have never seen before, anywhere. ||||Be aware that there is no elevator. Only stairs. ||||None of the staff spoke any English. On several occasions, my brother and I had to use Google translate to ask questions to let them know when we had a request. This did not pose a big issue, as the staff were all very professional and responsive. ||||There were little bars of hand soap, but NO shampoo or conditioner, so make sure you bring your own. ||||All TV channels are in Spanish - this was not an issue, as my brother and I don't watch TV anyway, but it's something to be aware of. ||||The hotel was everything we needed. If you are in Merida, I would recommend Las Dalias Inn; why not save a little money...
Read moreThe worst hotel we have stayed in all month! To begin, we had to sit in the waiting room for 15 minutes before we could check in so they could "verify" our reservation made online.
Then, when we got into our room, 2 of the 4 lights did not work.... and the toilet did not flush! These seem like pretty basic things for a hotel to ensure are in working condition. It didn't help that the bedsheets and walls had stains on them (mold? Urine? Not sure..)
We partially selected this hotel because it was a bit away from the downtown and we thought it would be quiet, but the walls are thin and we could hear everything going on in the hall all night long.
Finally, this hotel did not provide clean drinking water with which we could fill our water bottles.... come on! There are cheaper and better options all over town, and I would suggest...
