We came here upon recommendation of a friend. At first, we weren’t sure we could even find it, but so glad that we finally did. Upon arrival, we were very impressed with the atmosphere that El Lagarto de Oro emitted. It came across as our kind of place. We received very prompt attention and we were able to get a drink immediately. We needed more time to review the menu, so thank you for your patience. They also brought to our table three different salsas accompanied by these little twists of bread and tortilla chips. The three salsas were unlike anything we’ve ever had. Delicious!!!!! We share most dishes when we eat out,and always pick out two featured menu items that compliment each other. We finally ordered: Quesitos Rellenos con Longaniza and an order of Tacos de Camaron Cremosos. I don’t think we could pick a favorite. Both dishes were outrageous!!!! During our visit, the service was impeccable. Our server, Erika is a Saint. 😊 Various others kept coming up and asking if we needed anything. Marlen and Mariner were very pleasant. Great presentation and very mild mannered. They were extra help to us because they spoke English and were helpful in relaying any questions we had for El...
Read moreSsshh! Don’t tell anyone, you’ve just found THE best place to eat and drink in Merida! We paid multiple visits, ate heaps of unpronounceable dishes, and every time it was bang on fantastic. It gets busy - very busy! - but that just added to the atmosphere. We were the only non-Mexican patrons in there each time we went, but the staff were super friendly and helpful and the food is simply the best. The house special is our go to hands down favourite - just ask! - and the decor, ambience and liquor are all off the hook good. As you approach the building you’ll be feeling a bit meh (it doesn’t look like much from the outside) but, oh me oh my, once you part the saloon doors and enter through the curtains you will know you’ve hit the Merida jackpot. Simply...
Read moreI went here based on the stellar reviews but I was massively disappointed. On a Wednesday night, the place was mostly empty but there were at least 10 staff walking around which made it quite overwhelming. While the food was okay (nothing special) the cocktail that I ordered tasted like pure sugar. I informed the waiter about this and after a few unfortunate suggestions he came back with another drink. To my surprise, I was quickly charged for both drinks once the check came. When I pointed this out to the waiter he just shrugged. I think there are much better options in Mérida, especially at this price point and I would not...
