BKL HOTEL BOUTIQUE — Hotel in Oaxaca

This is a 4+ if you are staying for a few days, and a 2.5 if you are there for a few weeks. The Hotel is quiet (wonderful), the beds are comfortable and the ceiling is high. These are a big plus and make up for alot of minuses. The temperature in Feb-March does not require A/C. The fan is fine. If you are on a budget, the rooms with a shared bath are fine, the bath is cleaned daily. There is a roof terrace which is a lovely place to sit. The negatives - no windows expect for the doors. No black-out curtains, so the security lights at night can be tough. At 7 AM the business above my room (and appeared to be ONLY that one room) started moving equiptment for 30 min every day. I normally got up at 630 so it wasn't a problem. The continenal breakfast has a alot of seasonal fruit but is very short on protein, toast comes with margarine, not butter (a few pesos more and would be so worth it...). At one point staff would not give me an extra cup of coffee or a second piece of bread. The manager, Angel got that corrected quickly. And he allowed me to keep some protein in the refrigerator. There were some issues with general maintenance (all stuff I reported but was not fixed during my stay) , a light in my room died, slow drains on showers and sinks. Also there were a bunch of bikes for rent, all but one had major issues. No tools or pumps were available. Again - BKL is great place for a short stay, unfortunately I was booked there by a 3rd party and could not get out of...

We arrived to this hotel on a Wednesday early morning and stayed 3 nights. We couldn’t check in early and had to wait until after 2-3 pm. The administration of this hotel was not good overall or accommodating. We asked them if we can have some breakfast for that Wednesday morning since we were leaving early on Saturday morning and wouldn’t eat their breakfast that Saturday but the front desk wouldn’t let us. We asked them to accommodate an earlier breakfast at 7:30 am on Thursday and when we went over to sit in the dining area that morning, there was no hot food ready at that time so we left to eat elsewhere. Throughout our stay, the bathroom was not well constructed; the towel holder and toothbrush holder kept falling and the towel hooks weren’t screwed in at all so everything kept falling. The air conditioner wouldn’t cool either even if we put it on high turbo and kept it on for hours. On Thursday, there was no water so we had to use our bottled water to wash our faces, brush our teeth and for the toilet to flush. They didn’t alert us about the water at all and when we went out to ask, told us they would get water hours later. The housekeeper also forgot to put new towels and toilet paper so we had to keep asking for it and that was when they gave us some bottled water as well.
