TEATRO MACEDONIO ALCALÁ — Attraction in Oaxaca

Must See This Teatro, corner of Independencia and 5 de Mayo Almost every day at noon, there’s a tour in Spanish, and enquire at the Tourist Office in the same building for tours in English. Most unexpected, beautiful French architecture building (1903), constructed originally as a casino. The guide provided great detail about the architecture, time period, people involved, and showed us all over the building, including the rooftop for an incredible panoramic view of Oaxaca and the surrounding mountains. Beautiful site. We peeked into the only open door. No access to the theatre until the guided tours at noon. We are hanging out at the cafe that is attached....back from tour--fantastic. For an hour, you will see the main theatre and vantage points from each floor. You will see the 3 salons and on the top floor, roof to views of the city. Our tour was in Spanish but with assistance from fellow tourists, we were able to learn a bit more. Arrive...

This is Top Notch. And a top-notch tour. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in theater or architecture or Mexican culture. The tour guide is most informative and there's an opportunity to meet some other really nice people generally as part of your tour. I highly recommend it.
